Abstract
The present practice was carried out in order to find experimentally the specific heat of a solid
sample of a body and then compare it with a table and identify the solid with which it was
experimented. The practice consisted of heating the sample of the solid by means of steam until
it reaches approximately 100ºC and then pouring it into the calorimeter filled with liquid water
until the mixture reaches thermal equilibrium. Then; once the initial and final temperatures of
both substances were known, by means of the law of conservation of energy and the equation of
sum of heats equaled to zero, it was cleared and found the specific heat of the solid giving a value
close to 0.092 cal / (g * K), and when compared with the specific heats table of commonly used
substances, it was obtained that the analyzed solid was copper.
