Compartment Material Balance

The following general global material balance equation adapted from Arnyx, Bass,
and Whitihg12 is used for the material balance in each compartment;

𝐵𝑔𝑐
𝐹𝑛𝑒𝑡 = 𝑁(𝐵𝑡 − 𝐵𝑡𝑖 ) + 𝑚𝑁𝐵𝑡𝑖 ( ) + 𝑊(𝐵𝑡𝑤 − 𝐵𝑡𝑤𝑖 )

Net flux = change in vol.initial oil in place + change in vol. initial free gas in place +
change in vol. initial aquifer in place + change in vol. initial interstitial water in place
+ injected gas + injected water + change in pore volume – produced oil – prod.
Solution gas – prod. Free gas – produced water

Where Fnet is the net flux for the compartment (positive for net influx, negative for
net efflux), and the other Symbols in Eq. 22 are defined in the nomenclature list.

Since; in this aquifer the aquifer volume may be included in a compartment, the
term; W (Btw-Bfwi) is included in the material balance, and the term “Web for water
influx is excluded.

The volumes. NBti, mNBti and ’WB twi for “the original oil, gas cap gas, and
aquifer- water in’ place (in reservoir Cubic feet) are computed from the static
reservoir model (geometry and log-derived porosity), as are the initial
Water saturations in the oil and gas cap zones. Produced oil, gas and water and
injected gas, water or other fluid Pressure-volume-temperature (PVT] properties
and the formation compressibility, cf, are pressure-indexed tables
Defined for each compartment. Pressure dependence of the rock compressibility
permits inclusion of subsidence Effects.
The net flux is computed for each compartment for each month of field production.
Each material balance is computed from initial conditions, using cumulative
production summed for all wells intersecting the compartment for all months up to
the month for which the material balance is being computed.

Intercompartnet flux

To computed the intercompartment flux, the average reservoir pressure are

corrected to a common global datum depth . then compartments are ordered with
decreasing average potential . for any given month , and can have efflux to
compartment k to communicating compartment to the following equation :

𝐹𝑗𝑘 = +(𝐹𝑛𝑒𝑡 )𝑘 𝐶𝐹𝐸𝑗𝑘 ∆𝜑𝑗

Where Fjk is the flux from compartment k to compartment j with 𝐶𝑗 < 𝜑𝐶𝐾 , CFEjk
is the conection flow efficiency, and Ψjk is the conection threshold potential
difference . the total efflux from compartment k,( Ft)k, is given by
