SHELL OMALA OIL 220

EP INDUSTRIAL GEAR AND CIRCULATING OIL

ISO VISCOSITY GRADE 220
DESCRIPTION
Shell Omala Oil 220 is a premium quality, lead-free, extreme pressure (EP) gear oil for use
in all types of industrial enclosed gear assemblies. Shell Omala Oil 220 is also suitable as a
circulating and bearing oil for highly loaded plain bearings, and is particularly suitable for the
lubrication of steel-on-bronze industrial worm gears.

Shell Omala Oil is also available in ISO Viscosity Grades 68, 100, 150, 320, 460, 680 and
800.

PERFORMANCE FEATURES

LEAD FREE FORMULATION

Shell Omala Oil 220 utilises a specially selected sulphur phosphorus EP additive which gives
an overall performance level superior to that of leaded EP gear oils, while at the same time
satisfying the environmental requirements for non-leaded products.

WATER SHEDDING PROPERTIES

Shell Omala Oil 220 sheds water very readily and consequently is highly resistant to
emulsion
formation.

RESISTANCE TO CORROSION
Shell Omala Oil 220 contains anti-corrosion additives, that effectively cope with the water
which invariably seems to find its way into enclosed gear boxes through the air vent,
particularly in marine or high humidity locations.

OXIDATION AND THERMAL STABILITY

The ability to withstand high thermal loading, while affording increased resistance to
oxidation, is of particular importance in a premium quality, heavy duty gear lubricant. Bulk oil
temperatures of Shell Omala Oil 220 may be raised as high as 100°C without adverse
effects.

LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY

The load carrying capacity of Shell Omala Oil 220, as determined in laboratory tests and
confirmed by international field experience, ensures low gear tooth wear, particularly under
high load conditions.

SUMMARY OF BENEFITS

• High load carrying capacity and superior frictional characteristics ensure low gear tooth
wear and help reduce oil temperatures and frictional energy losses.

• Enhanced oxidation resistance and thermal stability protect against deposit and sludge
formation resulting in longer lubricant and filter life and reduced equipment downtime.

• Reduced tendency to foam or form emulsions which can have detrimental effects on
antiwear performance and bearing fatigue life.

• Formulated to protect steel and yellow metal components from rust, corrosion or chemical
attack by aggressive EP additives.
