PICO comments and suggestions for improvement

▪ Provide better guidance on how to best use the 2 min intro and make the most of the
format
▪ More time for discussion, either by lengthening the session or limiting the number of
presenters
▪ Quieter atmosphere
▪ More PICO sessions
▪ 2 min introduction too short for some
▪ Being more strict with time limits during the 2 min intros
▪ Wishes regarding the PICO spots: more seats, more space between the screens, lower
screens, stabilisation of the displays

Comments on these events
▪ Great Debates: Lots of respondents said these were excellent, but some would like
them to be more controversial. Many people mentioned the rooms were too small for
the audience.
▪ Short courses: Many said these were very interesting/useful; the possibility for
networking was also appreciated. Some cited time conflicts for not attending
▪ GeoCinema: Many said that the room was too small but the movies were great. Some
people mentioned they had no time to attend, or did not know about it
▪ Photo Competition: Most commented the photos were excellent and the competition a
nice addition to the programme
▪ Mineral Exhibition: Most commented the exhibition was interesting, but a few people
were not interested

Comments on EGU social media

▪ The majority of participants do not use social media (at least not during the event),
with some actively disliking it. Those who do vastly found the EGU channels
interesting and useful.
▪ Twitter users mostly appreciated the tweetwall (collection of tweets with the #EGU17
hashtag), however some would like a filtering of the tweets
▪ Constructive suggestions for improvement include having more updates on scientific
sessions & divisions, more information on job/career opportunities and the addition
of WeChat (a Chinese instant messaging service).
