A Simple Way to Contribute to Delta Gamma

Each of us made a commitment to membership for a lifetime during our new member process. Delta Gamma continues
to grow and prosper thanks to the valuable commitment of members like you. Local dues are the only source of income
for the Washington, DC Alumnae Chapter. We ask you to pay your annual dues so we can continue to plan and support
new and exciting events and continue to reach out to Delta Gamma women living in the D.C. area. Please support your
fellow Washington, DC Delta Gammas!
What you get for paying dues:
 Receive a special member rate to attend WDC DG chapter events.
 Receive a new member welcome packet full of DG goodies.
 Remain in good standing with the Fraternity and Executive Offices.
 Ensure you continue to receive a subscription to the ANCHORA.
 Support the programs and events of WDC DG, including Founders Day and the Holiday Tea.
 Feel good about "Doing Good" by supporting Delta Gamma's national philanthropy Service for Sight and WDC
DG's local philanthropy the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.
 Connect with other DGs on MyDG, Delta Gamma's own social network.
Become a WDC Delta Gamma member today! It’s only $43.50 to become a member of the DC alumnae chapter, and
that includes your per capita dues. That’s less than $4 per month! Questions? Contact Katie Novaria,
vpmembership@wdcdeltagamma.org. Pay online at: http://www.wdcdeltagamma.org/payform.html.

Camp Lighthouse 2010

By Christine Rocchio
The 51st annual Camp Lighthouse was held last month from Monday- June 28th through Friday- July 2, 2010 on the campus
of Catholic University. Forty visually impaired campers ages 6-12 participated in the camp. Activities were coordinated and
overseen by Andrea Noel, Children’s Programs Coordinator and Jocelyn Hunter, Manager of Communications for Columbia
Light House for the Blind. The camp is a wonderful opportunity for the children to be themselves, not their disability, while
having fun developing new educational, recreational and social skills.

I was fortunate to have had the privilege of serving as the Camp Nurse for the
week. During that time, I enjoyed making many new young friends and was
touched by how they refused to let their vision impairment define them. Camp
activities included swimming, storytelling, dance class and scavenger hunts. Yet,
some of the most fun I had was being introduced on how to read basic Braille and
how to play a game called Beepball. It’s similar to baseball where the ball and
bases make a beeping noise and there are sighted coaches who pitch and instruct
the players on when and what direction to run. It should be noted that to keep
things fair, all players are blindfolded so that no one with full or residual sight has
any advantage over the other players.

Camp Lighthouse was a heartwarming experience that I will not soon forget and
it was also good reminder of what our fundraising efforts help support. With
that, I strongly encourage anyone interested in giving of their time or other re-
sources toward the Delta Gamma philanthropy of “Service for Sight” to contact
me at vpfoundation@wdcdeltagamma.org.
