Induction day

1. What is toastmasters?
 Known as public speaking club
 An international club that operates worldwide n designed for members to develop
communication and leadership skills.
 Offer projects that help people to learn the arts of speaking, listening n thinking.
 Aptc is just one of the English tm club operates in saas, the only one in uitm

2. Why public speaking important?


 In everyday conversation – communication is the backbone of our society. Allow us to form
connections, influence decisions n motivate change
 Job interview
 As auditor, meeting with clients n have to speak fluently to ensure their trust n confidence
to us
 Presentation to boss, need to confidently deliver your work or ideas
 Impress your employer to get promoted

3. Why English?
 Taking professional course, working international firm where English is the first language –
became an everyday conversation in office so cannot escape from English
 Having to meet clients n not all clients speak malay
 Fundamental skill that need to develop as an acca holder n when working as auditor
 Self-market – being fluent in English makes yourself look intelligent n can easily persuade
others with your words
 Its an unwritten fact that people will listen more to those who can speak good English

4. What is the best way to get used to English?


 Listen to English songs? – are all songs use proper English? Grammar? (eg; rockabye – he
don’t know he is safe when she says)
 Watching English movies? – only read the subtitle but don’t practice with tongue
 Reading? – may learn new words but may not know the pronunciation
 The best way to be fluent in English is…

5. Meeting agenda
 Prepared speech – members doing speeches based on projects’ objectives
 Tt – impromptu session: main purpose is to encourage people fighting their stage fright not
emphasizing on content of speech
 Evaluation – important for members to improve

6. Aside from self development, we build networking too


 Joint meetings - went to big firms
 International speech contest – met with other tm clubs (last year we had it at sime darby)

7. This year aptc already sent proposal to big 4 for financial support to finance the first 10 new
members on their engagement fees(first time fee) which is around rm250
 We need to submit the fees by 31st march
