Introduction

The Trademark Translation Tools package (also known as Nemo) contains the tools needed to translate,
revise and manage the trademark files received from the CdT.

This document is intended to guide you through the installation process of the package. For details
regarding the usage of the tools please consult the User Manual installed together with the tools and
the provided training videos.

Prerequisites
The following hardware and software requirements must be met in order to have the setup and the
Trademark Translation Tools function correctly:

 Windows XP or later

 512 MB RAM [ 1GB recommended]

 1GB of free disk space [150MB for the applications and 850MB for the Nice Concordancer
database]

 Microsoft Office with working proofing tools – needed for the spell checker [Ms Office 2007 or
later recommended]

 MySQL Server v5.x.x 32 bit – needed for the concordancer databases

Please note that latest compatible MySQL Server version is 5.5.29 which can be found here:

http://downloads.mysql.com/archives/mysql-5.5/mysql-5.5.29-win32.msi

All the newer versions like 5.5.30 or 5.6.x or 6.x.x are not compatible with the software !!!
Please do not use them !!

In addition the above requirements, the installation must be performed by a user with Administrator
rights.

Components
The Trademark Translation Tools package (also known as Nemo) contains the following major
components:

2
 Translation/Revision Interface – the application used to translate/revise the trademarks

 Nice Concordancer Database – contains the official trademarks related multilingual reference
material which can be consulted via the Translation/Revision interface

 Concordancer Database – keeps track of your past translations making possible to use them as a
reference; it can be consulted via the Translation/Revision interface

 Split&Combine Interface – the tool used by the agencies to distribute/collect the trademarks
to/from the translators.

In order to benefit from the full functionality of the Translation/Revision Interface we highly
recommend installing it together with both the Nice Concordancer and Concordancer databases.

Installation instructions

Backup
The setup kit is implemented to preserve all the existing data (trademarks, configuration, Concordancer
database etc) from the already installed old versions of Nemo, however it is highly recommended to do
a backup before starting the new installation.

For a full backup please do the following:

Copy the contents of the Nemo installation folder (usually C:\Nemo) to a safe place

Copy the all the additional translator working folders which are not under C:\Nemo\JTrans to a safe
place

Please make sure that you copy and NOT move the folders!

3
Stop the MySQL Server service

4
In case of Windows 7 / Windows Vista you need to start the command prompt with “Run as
administrator”

Copy the contents of the MySQL Data folder (usually C:\MySQL\Data) to a safe place.

Please make sure that you copy and NOT move the folder!

5
Start the MySQL Server service

In case of Windows 7 / Vista you will have to use the same command prompt started with “Run as
administrator” as instructed with the stop command:

6
Start
The setup kit has several files: setup.exe, Trademark Translation Tools.msi , Data.cab, Setup.ini,
0x0409.ini, Autorun.inf.

7
In order to start the installation process, please first make sure that none of the old Nemo tools is
running and after that double click the setup.exe file.

In case of Windows 7 / Vista, if you want to avoid all the UAC notifications the best way is to right click
setup.exe and start it with “Run as administrator”:

8
You will be asked one time to allow the setup to run with elevated rights, but after that you should not
see any other UAC notifications:

9
10
After the initial window is displayed, you need to wait a couple of seconds during which the current
installation environment is detected.

11
When the detection is finished the Next button will be activated and you can continue the process

12
First you have to enter your user details

MySQL Status
Next you will be notified about the eventual problems with your local instance of the MySQL Server.

In case you have an old version (<5.0) of MySQL Server the installation cannot continue until you
upgrade your MySQL Server [Please see the details in the Upgrade from MySQL 3 section]

13
In case the correct version of MySQL server was detected but the setup kit can’t connect to it using the
default credentials (root user without password) you are also prompted to remedy the problem before
the setup can continue. [Please see the New MySQL Installation section for information on how to
correctly install MySQL Server]

14
If the setup kit is not able to find any local MySQL Server you can still continue the installation but some
features (the Nice Concordancer and Concordancer databases) will be not available. Even though the
installation is still possible, we highly recommend installing MySQL Server first in order to be able to
consult the official reference material for the trademarks (available in the Nice Concordancer database)
and be able to easily consult your past translations (stored in the Concordancer database).

In case you plan to use the concordancer databases already installed on a central server please ignore
the message and continue the installation – you will be prompted later to select the server where the
databases are available.

15
Microsoft Office Status
In the next step you are informed about the eventual problems with your Microsoft Office installation.

The spell checker integrated in the Translation/Revision Interface is implemented based on the
Microsoft Word spellchecker. Therefore it will not work without a locally installed Microsoft Office
having correctly functioning proofing tools for the desired target language.

For the best functioning of the built-in spell checker Microsoft Office 2007 or later is required. The
spellchecker should also work correctly with older versions but in case of eventual problems support is
possible only for version 2007 or later.

In case that Microsoft Office is not detected on your computer or its version is older than 2007 you will
be prompted with the corresponding messages:

16
17
Destination Folder
In the next step you are prompted to choose the destination folder for the installation.

For historical reasons the default installation location is C:\Nemo. You can choose any other location,
however, in order to make the eventual support activities more efficient in case of problems we
recommend keeping the default value.

In case you already have an older version of the tools installed, in order to keep things simple, it’s a good
idea to choose the folder of the previous installation.

New Installation
Select Components
In the case of a new installation, the next step will give you the chance to select what components you
want to install.

If a local MySQL Server was detected you will see the full list of the available components

18
When no MySQL was detected, only a subset of the components is available for installation

19
The components having the gray (hard drive) icon will be installed. The components having the red cross
icon will be not installed.

In order to change the installation state of a component you need to click the icon of the component
and select one of the presented choices: “This feature will be installed on local hard drive” or “This
feature will be not available” [see the screenshot presenting the full list of components].

As you can see in the two screenshots above some of the components are already preselected:

 if MySQL Server is present you should install the “Translation/Revision Interface”

together with both the “Nice Concordancer Database” and the “Concordancer
Database” – this is the recommended installation for a home user

 if no local MySQL Server is available the “Translation/Revision Interface” component is

selected for install together with the “Concordancer from the server” component – this
is the recommended installation for a workstation [assuming that the concordancer
databases are already installed on a server]

Even though these are the two recommended configurations you are free to change the default
selection to best fit your machine configuration. (e.g. in case you don’t have enough disk space available
you can choose to not install the “Nice Concordancer Database” (850MB) and install it at a later point in
time.)

Use Concordancer Databases from a Server

In the case of a workstation install, in a corporate environment where a central database server is
readily available (and on which the concordancer databases were already installed) you should not
install the concordancer databases locally. Instead you should select the “Concordancers from the
server” option and make sure neither the “Nice Concordancer Database” nor the “Concordancer
Database” components are selected (in case they are available). [Please see the next section to find out
how to install the concordancer databases on a central server]

20
Or

21
If the “Concordancers from the server” option was selected the next step will ask you to select the
server where the concordancer databases are installed. You should fill in the “Host” and the “Port” fields
and press the “Test Concordancer DB Connection” button.

If the connection to the server hosting the concordancer database is successful the version of the
available databases will be displayed and the “Next” button will be enabled allowing you to continue the
installation.

22
If the connection to the server hosting the concordancer database failed you will see a short error
message allowing you to start troubleshooting the problem and the “Next” button will stay disabled.
23
24
Install the Concordancer Databases on a Server
In order to install the concordancer databases on a central server, you need to start the installation
directly on the server and select the “Nice Concordancer Database” and “Concordancer Database”
components together with the “Configure databases for server use” component.

The “Configure databases for server use” component configures the installed databases to allow
connections from the workstations.

Upgrade from Version 5.2.1 or Newer (New Setup Kit)

When you upgrade from a previous version of the new setup kit (v5.2.1 or newer) the process should be
seamless: the setup kit should detect all you previously installed components and upgrade them without
asking you for any details.

For example if you upgrade from version 5.2.1 to version 5.3.0, when you launch the new setup kit
(v5.3.0) you will be first asked if you want to upgrade:

25
After accepting the upgrade you should start the installation by pressing “Next”

26
And acknowledging the eventual UAC prompt:

27
After a few minutes during which the installation progress is displayed:

28
The upgrade will end and the new version should be available on your computer:

29
Upgrade From Nemo version 3.0 or version 4.0
The current setup kit is designed to detect the existing installation of Nemo 3.0 and 4.0 and
automatically upgrade all the installed components while preserving all the existing data and
configuration files. More exactly the old data and configuration files will be backed up, the old
components uninstalled, and the backed up data and configuration files will be updated and used for
the new version. [Please note that your old Concordancer Database will be not replaced by the upgrade
process – your data should remain unchanged after the upgrade]

!!!Backup!!! As mentioned above, all your existing data should be preserved, however is always a good
idea to do a backup before doing the upgrade [Please see the “Backup” section for details]. !!!Backup!!!

If an old installation is detected, an upgrade specific step is displayed after the “Destination Folder” step
instead of the above presented component selection step. This step is presenting all the detected
components which will be automatically upgraded.

After you press the “Next” button the “Ready to install” step will be displayed. Please press the “Install”
button to proceed with the installation.

30
On Windows 7 / Vista you will have to acknowledge the UAC notification:

31
Next you should see the uninstallation of the old components:

On Windows 7 / Vista you will have again to acknowledge the UAC notification for each uninstalled
component:

32
33
In case you want to add remove components to and upgrade install you should simply launch the
installation process again. [Please see the”Modify an Existing Installation” section]

Upgrade – Problems Caused By the Changed Translator Folders Path

Translator Folders

When you start the Translation/Revision Interface you are asked to provide a user name. This user name
is used to identify the folder (the “translator folder”) where all the translation related files will be stored
for the specified user. In case it not already exists the translator folder is automatically created.

If you provide an absolute path as the user name, the path will be used as it is to identify the translator
folder.

If you provide a “normal” user name (=not a path), the translator folder will be created under the
installation folder of the Translator/Revision interface (usually C:\Nemo).

In the previous versions of the Translation/Revision Interface (v3.0 & v4.0) the user folder was located
directly in the JTrans subfolder of the installation folder (usually C:\Nemo\JTrans)

34
In the new version of the Translation/Revision Interface (v5.x) the location of the translator folders was
changed to JTrans\Work subfolder of the installation folder (usually C:\Nemo\JTrans\Work)

During the upgrade process all the existing translator folders found in the JTrans subfolder are moved to
the new JTrans\Work folder so when you start the new Translation\Revision Interface all your old data
will be readily available and everything should work correctly.

Unfortunately this folder structure change can possibly cause some other problems. Please see the
details in the following two sections.

Network Sharing Problems

If one or more old translator folders located under C:\Nemo\JTrans were shared over the network, after
the upgrade, because of the location change, the network shares will become invalid. Please make sure
to recreate all the affected network shares.

Split&Combine Problems

Split&Combine uses the translator folders in order to be able to distribute the new trademark files and
collect the translated ones.

Usually some of the translator folders are located on the same computer with Split&Combine while
others are accessed via drive mappings or direct network shares from other computers.

When Split&Combine is updated, all the paths from the configuration and data files pointing to local
translator folders are automatically updated to reflect their new location.

Unfortunately, in case of the network shares it’s not possible to do this automatically. Therefore, when
you update Nemo on a computer which is accessed by Split&Combine via a network share, the
translator folders relocated by the upgrade will be not found and Split&Combine will report errors.

In order to solve these problems a small tool was added to Split&Combine to manually replace the paths
in all the relevant configuration and data files.

You will have to use this tool every time you update Nemo on a workstation having translator folders
accessed by Split&Combine via network shares.

To start the tool you need to go to the Split&Combine installation folder (usually C:\Nemo\buncher) and
double click SCPathReplace.bat

35
The tool has a very simple usage: select the desired translator from the “Path to replace” combo box, fill
in the replacement path in the “Replacement” field and press the “Replace” button. [For your comfort
the most probable replacement path is automatically prefilled when you select a user from the combo –
please verify it and modify it in case it does not match your exact situation.]

36
Please note that the number of done replacements depends on the number of allocated trademarks.

Example:

Let’s suppose you have Nemo installed on Workstation1, under C:\Nemo and the whole C: drive was
shared as C and in Split&Combine you have defined Translator1 with the working folder located under
\\Workstation1\C\Nemo\JTrans . The full path to the translator’s folder is stored inside Split&Combine
as \\Workstation1\C\Nemo\JTrans\Translator1\translator

After you do the upgrade the new location will become

\\Workstation1\C\Nemo\JTrans\Work\Translator1\translator so in order to prevent the problems you
must run the SCPathReplace tool and replace the old path with the new one as in the screenshots
presented above.

Windows7 & Vista – UAC Confirmations

If you do the installation on Windows 7 or Vista without launching it with “Run as administrator” you
will be prompted several times to agree to run some parts of the installation process with elevated
rights [the famous UAC - User Account Control – notification ]. In order to have a correct installation you
should allow the respective parts to make modifications to your computer.

The first hint is that the Install button has the special Window 7/Vista icon which tells you that the
operation requires elevated privileges:

37
After you press the button you will be prompted by the standard Windows 7 UAC dialog – please press
the yes button.

38
Later during the installation you will see several times the UAC icon flashing in the toolbar:

Please click the icon and after that press the Yes button to allow the setup kit to stop/start the MySQL
Server service:

39
As stated above, it is very important that you positively answer all the UAC notifications thus allowing
the setup kit to use elevated rights when needed. If you don’t, the setup can’t be correctly completed
and will result in various problems while running Nemo.

Results of the Installation

After the installation the shortcuts to the selected modules together with a shortcut to the user manual
in PDF format will be present on both your desktop and Start\Programs menu.

40
As a next step we recommend you to consult the installed user manual together with the provided
training videos.

Please note that after a new installation the Concordancer database will be empty. Given the fact that
its meaning is to keep track of your past translations, it will normally fill up as you progress with your
work. However, in order to have a head start, it is possible to initialize it by importing already revised
translations for you target language which are available on the CdT freelance website.

Modify an Existing Installation

If you want to modify an existing installation you should either start the setup kit again, or go to “Add
Remove Programs” in the Control Panel and click the “Change” button. Both of these actions will start
the installation in maintenance mode.

41
Initially you will be prompted by the same initial screen as with the installation:

Followed by a step allowing you to select what maintenance operation you want to perform. Please
select the “Modify” radio button and press “Next”

42
The next step is the component selection screen which allows you to select which components you want
to install/uninstall.

43
As a difference from a new installation, in case of maintenance, the icons associated to each component
depict the installation state of the component. The components having the gray hard drive icon are
already installed on the system and the components having the red cross icon are not installed on the
system.

If you want to remove a component you should change its icon to a red cross by clicking the icon and
selecting the corresponding option from the popup menu.

If you want to install a not already installed component you should change its icon to the gray hard drive
by clicking the icon and selecting the corresponding option from the popup menu.

When you are ready with the component state modification you should press the “Next” button and the
setup kit will perform all the selected modifications.

Add a New Language (Croatian) to the Concordancer Database

From time to time when a new country joins the EU or a new language becomes an official EU language
the trademarks must also be translated from/to that new language. In the near future, after Croatia
joins the EU the trademarks will also be translated from/to Croatian.

The new setup kit (v.5.3.x) adds support for the Croatian language.

If you did a new installation, which also installed a new empty Concordance database, your new
installation completely supports the Croatian language and no further steps are necessary.

In case you upgraded from the previous version (v5.2.x) almost all the things are taken care of however,
in the case you will do translations from or to Croatian, you will need to manually add the Croatian
language to your existing Concordancer database.

In order to add the Croatian language to your Concordancer database please do the following:

Open a new command promt and go to the C:\Nemo\Conc folder by using the command below
followed by ENTER:

cd C:\Nemo\Conc

44
After that execute the command bellow followed by ENTER:

addNewLang.bat HR Croatian

The first parameter is the 2 letter language code (HR) and the second parameter is the usual name of
the language (Croatian). In case of success the results should look like in the following screenshot:

45
Uninstall
If you want to uninstall Trademark translation Tools you should go to “Add Remove Programs” in the
Control Panel and click the “Remove” button. After an initial confirmation this will start the
uninstallation process and the Trademark Translation Tools will be removed from your computer.

46
Please note that in order to prevent any data loss the uninstallation process leaves some data on your
computer. More exactly the following folders and registry entries are not completely deleted:

The Concordancer database – usually located under C:\MySQL\Data\Concordancer

47
The Nemo installation folder – usually located under C:\Nemo [All the application files from inside will
be deleted however the data and configuration files are not deleted]

48
The Trademark Translation Tools registry entries – located under [HKLM\Software\Translation
Center\Trademark Translation Tools] or [HKCU\Software\Translation Center\Trademark Translation
Tools] depending on the installation type.

49
If you want to completely erase all the traces of Trademark Translation Tools from your computer you
should remove the above mentioned folders and registry entries manually.
