UNIT 1 – Paper 02

READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

1. This paper consists of ONE major task.

2. The task consists of a background, theme, audience and production.

3. You are required to respond the entire task. Where appropriate, use the spaces provided
for your responses.

4. A digital media kit has been provided to assist in the production work.

5. All work, including project and asset files used MUST be digitally compressed into a
SINGLE ZIP FILE, included with your final submission at the end of the examination
and exported as directed by the invigilator. The zipped file should be given your name
followed by ID number (e.g. John Doe – 123456789).

6. The use of mobile phones is NOT allowed.

7. All hard copies must be handed over to the invigilator at the end of the examination.

8. You are strongly advised to save your work INTERMITTENTLY.

Guidelines

You have been asked to design a digital media story that promotes physical activities that can be done
while on vacation in the Caribbean. This will involve

• the creation of a digital media story using the creative process


• one or more of the following digital media formats:
̶ photographs
̶ audio
̶ video.

Young adults

1. (a) Using a mind map and thumb nails, show the development of your product concept. Your
creation MUST include at least FIVE credible branches. (You MUST create your solution
as a separate document, label it as “Question 1 (a)” and upload.) [10 marks]

(b) State TWO sources of equity funding that can be considered for funding this product.
[2 marks]

(c) Create a short profile of the target audience.

Include EACH of the following details:

• Gender
• Specific interests which may include sports, gaming, videos, television shows,
cartoons and reading
• The importance of this product to the target audience [3 marks]

2. (a) Name the final TWO stages of the creative process. [2 marks]

(b) (i) In an effort to protect your story, would you seek a copyright or a patent?
[1 mark]

(ii) Justify your response in (b) (i) by explaining the difference between a copyright
and a patent. [3 marks]

(c) (i) Identify TWO types of digital media businesses that could assist with the creation
of your story. [2 marks]

(ii) Describe the involvement of any ONE businesses identified in (c) (i) in the
production of your story.
[2 marks]

3. (a) Create your story from the pieces of media provided (photographs, audio and video), by
selecting and using an appropriate digital media tool. [13 marks]

(b) Export your finished product into any one of the following formats and then submit it.
• MPEG2
• MP4
• AVI
• WEBM
• WMV
• FLV

Ensure that it does not exceed 10 MB. [3 marks]

(c) Justify TWO of the pieces of media that you used. [4 marks]

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUBMISSION OF COMPLETED WORK

After the invigilator has signalled the end of the examination,


compress your work (project and asset files) into a single zip file,
name the file using your name followed by your candidate ID and
submit it to the electronic facility as directed by the invigilator.
