Stanley Ho Sports Centre | 14th January 2018, 8.

30am to 6pm
Chairman’s Message

Dear Guests,

On behalf of Valley Fort RFC, I take great pleasure in welcoming you all to the Valley Fort Festival 2018. We
are expecting 341 teams and over 4200 players to participate in matches throughout the day, playing on the
four pitches at the Stanley Ho Sports Ground. It’s our second year hosting our festival at this excellent facility
and we are very grateful to our friends at HKU Sandy Bay mini rugby club who have continued their support
throughout, and KK Tam and her very efficient Stanley Ho team who have assisted our club in running this
festival.

We have included Under 5s into our schedule (on Pitch 3C between 12pm and 2pm) as well as the usual
Under 6 to Under 11 age groups. In addition to playing or watching some high quality rugby, we have a
packed entertainment program including the activation stands in our ‘Societe Generale Fun Zone’. Each
stand completed earns the participant a cool rugby-themed temporary tattoo; collect more than four and earn
a SG Japan Rugby World Cup Mini rugby ball - as well as the opportunity to win other great prizes. Societe
Generale is a proud Worldwide Partner of the first Asia-based Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019. Societe
Generale and the HKMRFU share the same values as World Rugby: Integrity, Passion, Discipline, Respect
and Solidarity. You will have previously heard that each Mini festival is focusing on a specific value. At Valley
Fort we are focusing on ‘Solidarity.’ I think that we all agree that Rugby provides us all with a unifying spirit
that leads to life-long friendships, camaraderie, teamwork and loyalty that transcends cultural, geographic,
political and religious differences.

I’d suggest that you also try out the rugby entertainment workshops led by Hong Kong International players
(on the far side of Pitch 3 next to the bouncy castle). If bouncy castles, activation stands or rugby workshops
are not your thing then take a look at the vendor stalls that are located around Pitch 3. Please make sure
that you visit the two charity stalls that we are proud to support - the first is the ‘Rugby Wallet’ initiative; a
charity that recycles rugby balls into wallets and key chains with all money going to providing employment
opportunities for families in Cambodia as well as offering rugby opportunities for young Cambodian children.
The second charity is ‘Splash’; a charity that conducts swim and water safety courses for under-served
communities in Hong Kong that may not have the access or means for swim lessons.

This is my first year as Valley Fort Chairman (having stepped into the very large shoes left by Olly Stratton)
and I’m blown away by the support that rugby receives at all levels in Hong Kong. At the club level I want to
thank all of those that have helped to make this event a success, in particular George von Burg our festival
organiser, Simon Anam, the Valley Fort Vice-Chairman and Jessie Lam our clubhouse Manager as well as all
the willing volunteers who make this day possible.

I’d also like to recognize our festival sponsors: Swire Properties/Tai Koo Place and Marriott Rewards, without
whom we would not be able to provide a festival of this scale and quality. I’d also like to thank Acuris (Balls)
and Bonaqua (water) and all our club sponsors: Societe Generale, Mayer Brown JSM, TV5Monde, MyMarket
and Three Blind Mice. We appreciate all the contributions these companies and their people make to our
club.

I wish all players and participants a truly memorable Valley Fort Festival. Have a great day, play as a team
with solidarity, and revel in the fact that we are all part of this amazing Hong Kong rugby family.

Stronger. Faster. Fitter.

Mayer Brown JSM is a proud sponsor of Valley RFC.

Jessie Lam小姐,以及所有熱心的義工們,因為你們的努力,今天的活動才得以舉行。

Important Festival Information
SCHEDULE
Games are being played on 4 pitches throughout the day:
Pitch 1 (U11, 9.30am to 4.50pm) and Pitch 2 (U7, 8.30am to 1.30pm; U8, 1.30pm to 5.50pm) are off to the
right as you come through the main entrance.
Pitch 3 (U10, 8.30am to 3.30pm, U10G, 2.30pm to 5.50pm; U9G, 3.30pm to 6pm, U5, 12pm to 2pm) is the
main grass pitch inside the athletics track on the left as you walk through the entrance.
Pitch 4 (U6, 8.30am to 11.40am; U9, 12pm to 5.30pm) is the other side of Pitch 3 up the steps.
In order to maximize playing time for the kids, we are running a very tight schedule with only 1 minute breaks
between games. Games will start as soon as both teams are ready and finish when the ref is informed by
the pitch marshal. In order to make the pitch marshals’ job easier please make sure your team is at the
right pitch and ready to start at least 2 minutes before the scheduled start time.

HONG KONG PLAYERS AND MEDAL PRESENTATIONS

Following your kids’ matches, their teams will be presented with medals on the 2 presentation stages (one
between Pitches 1 & 2, the other next to the stand at the entrance to Pitch 3).
So please take the time to engage in these activities between and after games. In the rugby entertainment
workshops there are different areas for skills and competitions led by Hong Kong international players
covering age groups ranging from Rugby Tots for the U5s to activities where parents can challenge their kids.
See if you can beat your kid and win a prize!

TRANSPORTATION, DROP-OFF AND PARKING

There is NO PARKING at Stanley Ho Sports Centre, and all cars parked along the road outside the
entrance WILL BE TICKETED. For those of you driving, please park at Cyberport. 2 hours free parking
with HKD200 spend. A free shuttle bus will be operating from Cyberport to the venue from 7.45am to
6.15pm. Alternatively it’s a 10 minute walk. For MTR alight at Kennedy Town exit A and take bus no. 58.
Address is 10 Sha Wan Drive, Sandy Bay.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES: Please do NOT bring outside food and beverages. Our various catering
contractors have a great selection of food, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.

WATER: As per last year, we will NOT be giving away bottled water. Make sure your child brings a water
bottle which can be used to pick up water at the water stations. Water is being supplied by Bonaqua.

MOUTH GUARDS: No mouth guard, no play. If you forget to bring one, please come to one of the Valley Fort
festival control points, where we will have a limited supply of mouth guards for purchase at HKD100.

USED KIT & SHOE COLLECTION: We will be collecting used rugby kit for to donate to charity. If you
have rugby boots or kit that you no longer need, please bring along and drop them off in the bins next to
the Valley Fort festival control points (clean kit only please; for shoes, please tie the laces together so
that the pairs do not get split up).

THEFT ALERT: This Sunday there will be a lot of people at Stanley Ho and so please be vigilant at all times
and don’t leave bags lying around.

CODE OF CONDUCT: Please remind everybody from your club – players, parents, and most importantly all
your coaches – to behave appropriately at all times. Respect the referee – they are volunteers doing a
challenging job, and they deserve your support, so accept their decisions at all times. Encourage players
from both teams – applaud tries from both sides and support the players at all times. This is not the World
Cup, and we’re all participating to have fun.
