LESSON PLAN : ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Date : 5/ 3/ 2015 Class : Set 3 Theme : People


Time : 12.00 – 1.20 pm (1 – 2) Ops-English / Form 1 Topic : Hobbies
Day : Thursday
Learning Objectives : At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
i) Actively involve to use the language learned in this topic confidently,
ii) Practice the vocabulary learned and its pronunciation,
iii) Share and talk about hobbies.
Success Criteria : Students should be able to :
i) List down the hobbies they know (at least 10 hobbies)
ii) Create a Hobby Club
iii) Design a logo and create a motto for the club
iv) Promote the poster of their club
Differentiation Stategy : 1) Differentiation by promoting the Hobby Club
Duration Activities Resources
1) Set Induction / Starter
i) Teacher draws students’ attention to the picture and ask them to
describe about the picture. Ops English
7 ii) Teacher asks the following questions :- Text Book :
minutes  What do you see in the picture? Page 7,
 What are they doing? A4 Papers
iii) Teacher pastes a word “Hobby” in the white board. Teacher White Board
reveals some of the letters in order to help them in guessing
and do not reveal it until they can guess the topic for the lesson.
iv) Students complete the “K” section in the KWHLAQ section.
v) Teacher asks Resources Managers from each group to collect
teaching and learning materials for the next activity from
teacher.
2) Activity 1
i) Teacher asks students to form new groups and this categorization Sticky notes,
is based on their roles as Captain, Time Keeper, Resource Pens, Circle
Manager, and Cheer Leader. Map Handouts,
10 ii) In groups, teacher asks students to list down as many as possible Notice Board
minutes hobbies on sticky notes.
iii) They have to paste the sticky notes in the circle map provided.
iv) Captain of each group paste it on the notice board. Teacher
checks and gives reward to the group who achieves the highest
correct hobbies within the time frame given by teacher.
3) Activity 2
i) Students form a group that share the same hobbies.
ii) Teacher tells the students to form a Hobby Club and they are
going to promote their Hobby Club. Mahjong
iii) Each group must prepare a poster to promote their Hobby Club. papers,

iv) Students must decorate their poster to make it attractive.
4) Activity 3
i) Teacher invites each group to share their posters and promote
their clubs. Each member in the group is encouraged to share.
ii) The presentation of the poster must follow the guideline as
below:
25  Greet teacher and classmates. Introduce the members in

 One member introduces the club logo and name. Posters
 The next member explains the motto for the club.
 Another member talks about activities for the club.
 Another member talks about the benefits of the club if
others join the club.
iii) Students have to promote their poster and invite others to join
their club.
5) Voting
10 i) Each group displays their posters around the classroom. Hobby Club

iii) Teacher rewards the group who wins the highest votes.
Plenary
i) Teacher asks students randomly to state two advantages of
hobbies. (KBAT questions) KWHLAQ form
ii) Teacher asks the students to complete the KWHLAQ section.
