Chevrolet Aveo
COMMENTS
FRONTAL IMPACT Structural deformation and spot-weld release indicated that the bodyshell had been overloaded and had become unstable.
Rearward movement of the A-pillar was penalised. Movement of the steering-wheel presented a hazard to the driver's
head. The driver's chest made contact with the steering-wheel, distorting the rim. Compression of the driver's chest
indicated an unacceptably high risk of life-threatening injury. As a result, the final star of the adult occupant rating is struck
through. Structures in the dashboard represented a potential hazard to the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger.
No points were awarded for the protection offered to the feet and ankles.
SIDE IMPACT
CHILD PROTECTION The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be placed in the front passenger's seat.
However, the deactivation switch is not clearly marked and information regarding the status of the airbag is not sufficiently
clear. The presence of the ISOFIX anchorages in the rear outboard seats was not clearly indicated.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Aveo scored enough points overall to qualify for three stars but Euro NCAP requires a minimum level of performance
in each of the frontal and side impacts. The car did not score enough points in frontal impact to be awarded three stars.
Euro NCAP has assessed the performance of the Chevrolet Aveo, a face-lifted version of the Chevrolet/Daewoo Kalos. We
were advised that the Kalos would be replaced by the Aveo, but now understand that the Kalos will continue to be available
as a three/five door version until 2008. We are informed that until then the Aveo will be available only as a saloon.
It has been indicated that the face-lift includes improvements in safety and Euro NCAP can only conclude that the safety
performance of the Kalos will not be as good as the Aveo. In any case, as our assessment was made on a saloon car, we
can not be sure that the three/five door car will have the same performance.
NOTE: The child protection rating of the Aveo was originally 31 points and three stars. Chevrolet have since provided us
with additional information which increases the score to 39 points and the rating to four stars.
