V. Overview of the Study

The study aims to provide a well-fitted solution to the problem on improper solid
waste disposal on many Philippine waterbodies.

To address the problem, a modified sewage collector is carefully designed to

meet the needs of resolving the plastic pollution on most of the dead waterbodies.

The study will provide the necessary approach and appropriate procedures to
eradicate the adverse effect of plastic pollution.

The documentation of the study provides the computations necessary to come-

up with the specifications of the proposed subject matter (sewage collector). The
analyses and methods used in the study are carefully selected from the well-known
proven approaches.
The bases of the data used in the study are adopted from the recent conducted
studies.

As a result, the study is said to be thoroughly conducted to make the best out of
it.

VI. Target Beneficiaries

The best target beneficiaries of the output of the study are the municipalities
dealing with the plastic pollution on their respected rivers, lakes and other
waterbodies. Environmental Institutions and organizations are also possible target
beneficiaries of the study.

VII. Sample Prototype Design

The sewage collector is a modified pontoon ship that collects solid waste
materials (plastic bottles, bags, and others).

The front conveyor chain will collect the floating solid waste materials.

The front pontoon hull tubes will be responsible for providing positive buoyant
force to allow the ship float on water surface.

The rudder will allow the maneuverability of the ship to allow the ship move
forward and backward.

The rear conveyor chain discharges the collected solid waste materials into the
dumping area or harbor.
Conceptual Framework

A careful analysis will help to project the solution itself to the problem under
study. The quantitative analysis approach will help to layout the appropriate
procedure to resolve the problem.

throughout nationwide.
The modified sewage collector must undergo certain procedures before it can be
available to the public consumers (target beneficiaries), an operation management
must be followed to analyze the possibilities of future problems that the sewage
collector might encounter. The following diagram shows the process of applying the
operation management to sewage collector.

The sewage collector will essentially collect the floating solid waste material on
the surface of the water. The operations of the sewage collector can be visualized
from the drawing provided.

The operation of the sewage collector is nothing but like any other existing
segregation processes except that it is done on waterbodies like rivers or lakes. The
sewage collector will initially collect the floating solid waste materials using the
specialized conveyor into the compartment of the ship until such the compartment is
full. When the storage of the ship is full of the collect solid waste materials, the next
step is to discharge the wastes into the harbor or the initial dumping area. The
dumping area could be anywhere near the vicinity of the river or lake accessible to
the collection trucks and deposit it to the recovery facilities. The recovery facilities are
then responsible for properly separating the types of garbage from one the other
either recyclable, toxic, degradable or non-degradable. In this manner, the garbage
can then be decided for future use, recycling or even sell for profit. If the garbage
cannot be beneficial, then the collecting trucks will finally deliver the garbage to the
responsible authorities. The sewage collector will discharge new collected garbage
and the process continues to cycle until the river is cleaned thoroughly. A following
simple diagram will help to visualize the process and operations of sewage collector.
