4. COATING OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 The coating operations shall not be performed if the ambient humidity is greater
than 85% and the steel temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.

4.2 The paint manufacturer’s recommendations shall be strictly followed for the
storing, mixing, thinning, straining and over coating times between coats.

4.3 Stripe coat shall be carried out for each coat of the system and prior to the
subsequent spray application on all surfaces inaccessible to spray ( i.e. bolting,
mounting flanges, body gaps etc. )
Note: visual coating irregularities shall be accepted only on those areas subject
to stripe coat.

4.4 Coating shall be sprayed, by means of conventional spray equipment

suitable for work, as a continuous film free from saggings or pinholes.

4.5 Valve end connections.

Machined Raised Face Gasket faces outside the RTJ Groove and Back Face
of the Hub end surfaces shall be entirely coated per this document.

4.6 The internal holes area of the line assembly mounting flanges (where applicable)
shall be stripe coated but this area, due to geometric configuration, will be not
subject to D.F.T. measurements neither others types of checks.

4.7 The last 40-50 mm. of the valve pup piece ends ( where applicable ) shall beleft
unpainted.

4.8 Bare stem valves ( where applicable ):

Top of the valves adapter plates mounting faces to operators shall be coated per
this document except stems and its cavity that shall be protected from paint
ingress.
Note: contact surfaces shall not be subject to D.F.T. measurements.

4.9 Valve components.

Stem grease fitting shall be coated per this document excluded head connection.
Body grease fittings, relief valves, blow down valves, safety valves shall be
coated per this document excluded its small holes that shall be protected from
paint ingress.
Drain and vent plug connections shall be coated per this document excluded its
threaded parts or small drain holes that shall be protected from paint ingress.

external threaded surface previously protected from blasting shall be coated
per this document.

4.11 Valve stainless steel components ( where applicable ):

Stainless steel components shall be coated per this document.

4.12 Manual operated valves shall have the associated gear operators or levers
entirely coated per this document.
When separated from the valves, the bottom of gear operator mounting surface,
shall be coated except the cavity of the stem that shall be adequately protected
from paint ingress

6. COATING REPAIRS

6.1 Coating repairs shall not be performed if the ambient humidity is greater than 85%
and the steel temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point.

6.2 Damaged or defective painted surfaces shall be repaired as follows:

6.2.1 Check the surfaces in order to identify all coating damages, signs of improper
application or bare steel.

6.2.2 Remove any foreign matters from the surfaces and proceed with degreasing
using solvent.

6.2.3 Remove any painting defect from the area to be repaired using sand paper
( i.e. no. 120÷180 ).

6.2.4 Blow with dry compressed air to remove any residual dust.

6.2.5 Surround the defective surfaces overlapping the well adhesive coating and
proceed with the paint application, steps 5.1-5.2 properly mixed as per the
enclosed paint Manufacturer’s instructions by means of spray equipment,
brush or roller until the required thickness is reached.
Note: the final appearance of the coating repairs carried out by means of
brush or roller may vary from spray application due to aluminium pigments
contained on the top coat.

7.1 HANDLING

7.1 Handling of the coated surfaces shall be carried out after achievement of
adequate curing to allow the handling of the valves avoiding coating damages.
