PAWEES TAICHUNG STATEMENT 2017


November 9-10, 2017

PAWEES International Conference 2017 and PAWEES Honors


Award Ceremony were held during November 9-10, 2017 in Taichung,
Taiwan. The conference commenced with a keynote speech “Future Asia:
Society-based Interdisciplinary Approach” by Prof. Yasuyuki Kono,
Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University,
Japan. Over 70 research papers including poster presentations were
presented and discussed in the conference. A special session was
dedicated in parallel to others for student participants; this session was
organized thoroughly by all the international student participants to
encourage future international collaborations among these young
researchers. Participants of the PAWEES Business Meeting agreed to the
following statements.

1. An editorial meeting of PWE (Paddy and Water Environment) of


PAWEES was held during the conference. PWE published about 50
papers annually, but more than 80 papers including short
communications were published in 2017. The impact factor was
improved from 0.87 in 2015 to 0.96 in 2016, and hopefully will be
more than 1.0 in the near future. A special issue focusing on
Eco-service System has been organized and will be published soon.

2. A new “Young Achievement Award” was proposed by the Taiwan


Agricultural Engineers Society (TAES) for celebrating the 15 year
anniversary of PAWEES and PWE and encouraging prospective
young researchers (under the age of 40) in this domain. Three
awardees will be nominated by the three national society members

without limitation on the nationality. More details about the
nomination will be discussed through email and be finalized before
next summer.

3. Taiwan Agricultural Engineers Society expressed the willingness to


donate US$1,050 every year to the new Young Achievement
Awards.

4. The possibility for publication of a textbook was discussed. It was


concluded to have a Book Title first and detailed subjects to be
covered will be done through email correspondences.

5. The next PAWEES conference will be held in Nara, Japan Nov.


20-22, 2018. The theme of this coming conference is “Promoting
Sustainable Paddy Farming to Achieve the SDG’s”.
