UNIT – I
1. a) Explain with the help of waveforms the operation of a single phase semi 7M CO1
controlled Converter.
b) Evaluate the performance parameters of single phase semi controlled converter 7M CO3
with inductive load

2. a) A single phase semi converter is operated from 120 V, 60 Hz supply. The load 6M CO3
current with an average value IDC is continuous and ripple free angle α = π/6.
Determine
i. Displacement Factor
ii. Harmonic factor of input current
iii. Input power factor
b) Analyze with the help of waveforms, the operation of a single phase fully 8M CO2
controlled Rectifier.
UNIT – II
3. a) A three phase semi converter is operated from a three phase star connected 208 V, 6M CO3
60 Hz supply and the load resistance is R = 10 Ω. If it is required to obtain an
average output voltage o 50 % of the maximum possible output voltage, calculate
(a) the delay angle α (b) the RMS and average output currents (c) the average and
RMS thyristors currents (d) the rectification efficiency (e) TUF (f) the input PF.
b) Derive the Fourier series for input power factor of a three phase full converter 8M CO4

voltage is Va = 5 V and peak to peak output ripple voltage is 10 mV. The
switching frequency is 20 kHz. If the peak to peak ripple current of inductor is
limited to 0.5 A determine (a) the duty cycle (b) the filter inductance (c) the filter
capacitance (d) the critical values of L and C.

factor.

1. a) Derive an expression for average load voltage of single phase full converter with 7M CO1

b) The 3phase half wave rectifier is operated from a 3phase wye connected 220V, 7M CO3
60Hz supply and load resistance R=10Ω. If the average output voltage is 25% of
the maximum possible average output voltage, calculate (a) Delay angle, (b) RMS
and Average output currents.

2. a) Discuss the inversion operation of single phase fully controlled rectifier with the 6M CO1
help of waveforms and power circuit.

b) The input voltage of a CUK converter Vs = 15 V. The duty cycle k = 0.4 and the 8M CO3
switching frequency is 25 KHz. The filter inductance is L2 = 220 µH and filter
capacitance is C2 = 220 µF. The energy transfer capacitance is C1 = 400 µF and
inductance is L1 = 250 µH. The average load current is 1.25 A. Determine (a) the
average output voltage (b) the average output current (c) the peak to peak output
current ripple of inductor L1 (d) the peak to peak output voltage ripple of capacitor
C1 (e) the peak to peak output current ripple of inductor L2 (f) the peak to peak
