O-G’s Beemer finishes fourth in state wrestling

COLUMBUS — Get-
ting to the state wrestling
tournament is always
tough.
Trying to improve on
past performances isn’t
easy either.
Ottawa-Glandorf junior
Daniel Beemer was mak-
ing a return trip to the
state tournament at Ohio
State this week. Last sea-
son, Beemer finished fifth
in the 182-pound weight
class in Division III.
This year, Beemer
wanted to go up a few
more steps on the award
podium.
Beemer made it to the
semifinals Friday, the
second day of the tourna-
ment, before suffering his
first loss of the season.
Pymatuning Valley’s
Gaige Willis defeated
Beemer 9-5, after two
30-second tiebreakers.

out with a hard-fought
3-2 win over Beemer, giv-
ing the O-G standout a
fourth-place finish in the
tournament.
According to Beemer
(37-2), the sting of losing
twice in the state tourna-
ment could actually pay
huge dividends in the
future.
“I lost to two returning
state finalists by close
scores,” he said. “So, just
feeling them out is going
to help me next year, and
hopefully will get me to
where I need to be. After
losing the semis, that’s
