Sub: Circular on Winter 2017-2018 Semester CAT-I and CAT-II - reg
The schedule for Continuous Assessment Tests I and II (CAT-I and CAT-II) for Winter 2017-
2018 is given in the Annexure-I (for paper-based examination) and Annexure-II (for Digital
pad-based examination). As per norms, CAT-I should be conducted as a closed-book/note
book type and CAT-II as an open book / notebook examination.
Faculty members are required to set the question papers in accordance to the standard set
by the Institute. The following points should be taken care while preparing the question
paper.
[a] About 80% of questions in CAT-I and 100% of the questions in CAT-II should be on HOTS
[b] Action verbs given in the revised Bloom’s taxonomy should be used appropriately
[c] Questions should unambiguously reflect the assessment of the required SLOs
Attendance entry will be closed on 18th January (Thursday) for CAT-I and 01st March 2018
(Thursday) for CAT-II. Request for posting/change of attendance, by the faculty, after the
aforementioned dates will not be entertained. Students with less than 75% attendance will
not be permitted to write Continuous Assessment Tests. CAT venue details will be made
available in V-TOP login for eligible students. Nine pointers are exempted from the minimum
attendance criteria.
For PBL Courses
For courses in PBL-mode (in non-CAL) the internal assessment test can be scheduled during
CAT II period as an open book/note book examination. If more than one written exam is
planned for PBL courses, atleast one of those should be of open book/note book type.
For examination using Digital Pads
A few first level courses (based on class numbers) are identified for the conduct of CAT-I and
CAT-II using digital pad. Related information will be made available in the student login.
Students who are absent for the examination due to hospitalization / death in the family /
Pre-approved On Duty are given a chance to appear for CAT-I (to be conducted before CAT-II)
/ CAT-II (to be conducted before FAT) at a different timing. Faculty members can schedule
and conduct the examination for these students during the period mention above.
