Code of Ethics and


Professional Standards
KCRAR maintains the highest level of professionalism and follows the NAR
Code of Ethics (COE). Adherence to the COE is monitored through a
Professional Standards process that helps to resolve disputes through ethics
proceedings, mediation and arbitration. We are committed to facilitating fair
and timely resolutions.

The Code of Ethics is one of the most important features of your membership.
With it, we can continue to treat our clients with the hallmark service that has
made the REALTOR® organization one of the nation’s most respected and
recognized.
All REALTOR® members are required to complete 2½ hours of COE training
every two years. New members must complete their first COE training
within 60 days of membership. If you have any questions regarding this NAR
requirement please contact Debbie Strange at DebbieS@kcrar.com.

2 Ways to Meet the COE Requirement


• Access the online courses at nar.realtor and select Online REALTOR®
Ethics Training, then click on New Member Code of Ethics Orientation.
You will need your National REALTOR® Database (NRDS) number.
• Complete the KCRAR Continuing Education Class called Behave
Yourself. It is also offered by most online schools with CE credit available
for both Kansas and Missouri.

A GUIDE FOR REALTORS®
In addition to subscribing to the highest standards of the
REALTOR® Code of Ethics, KCRAR members embrace the ideals
of courteous and gracious behavior, especially during interactions
with colleagues. Please keep these courtesies in mind as part of

Prepare for Showings


1 • When asking about a property or when talking with another REALTOR®,
always identify yourself as a REALTOR®.
• Don’t show any property without an appointment. This includes vacant and
newly constructed properties.

Showing the Property

 unctuality and courtesy go hand-in-hand. Call the listing firm or co-op if you
are running early, late or need to cancel your appointment.
•
Never allow buyers to enter property unaccompanied. When showing
property to buyers with children, be sure children are supervised at all times.
•A
 lways leave your business card.

After the Showing


3 • Make sure the house is left the way you found it. Check heating and cooling
controls. Be sure to turn off the lights, shut the windows and lock the doors.
• Reply to feedback requests in a timely manner. Report to the listing agent any
inaccurate listing information and anything that appears wrong with the property.

Presenting the Offer


• The selling agent should deliver the offer to purchase along with the earnest
money to the listing agent in a timely manner.
• The listing agent should explain all details of the terms of the offer to the
seller and present a “Seller’s Net Proceeds” when presenting all offers and
counter-offers.

After the Sale

5 • Listing and selling agents should keep each other informed of any problems
or complications in a timely manner. Remain as cooperative liaisons between
the seller and buyer to ensure a smooth settlement.

Volunteer Opportunities
KCRAR offers an abundance of volunteer opportunities for members to have a hand in

KCRAR’s Young Professionals Network (YPN/KC) is a network of career-minded real
estate professionals who want to engage, empower and educate the next generation of

for the industry through leadership development, networking opportunities and community

KCRAR Commercial is one of the largest and most active local commercial real estate trade

REALTORS® Political Action


Committee
The REALTORS® Political Action Committee is
dedicated to protecting private property rights and
REALTORS’® interests in the legislative arena. In
addition, RPAC supports political candidates at the local, state and national
level who understand the issues of importance to REALTORS®, especially
property rights. Choose to invest in RPAC. Consider it an investment in your
business.
NATIONAL LEGISLATION Contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes.
You may refuse to contribute without reprisal and the National Association of REALTORS or any of its state associations or local boards
®

will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used by your state PAC to
support state and local political candidates. Until your state PAC reaches its RPAC goal 30% is sent to National RPAC to support
federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C. 441a; after the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal it may elect to
retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.

Consumer The local real estate market makes headlines and KCRAR is working
on your behalf to develop and maintain important connections with the
media. Through our consumer outreach efforts, we have the opportunity

Relations
Throughout the year, KCRAR and NAR promote the advantages of
working with a REALTOR® and the benefits of home ownership through
local and national marketing campaigns. In 2017, KCRAR is investing in a
greatly enhanced consumer marketing campaign to promote the importance
of the work you do. As a result of this campaign, the public will see REALTOR®
advertising on local television stations, as well as digital and print media outlets.
KCRAR also secures opportunities to provide articles to local media outlets such as the
Kansas City Star, featuring local market updates, buyer and seller tips, and other relevant
industry news – all of which promote the importance of working with a local REALTOR®.
