1. What is the difference between CSW and CSH compressors?
CSW and CSH are both semi-hermetic screw compressors with fully integrated oil separator system. The CSH series, designed for higher pressure ratios, is typically for air cooled applications. The CSW series represents a further evolutionary step in compressor design and is especially dedicated to smaller pressure ratios commonly met in water cooled chillers with DX or flooded system. Compared to the BITZER CSH, the new CSW compressors reach increases in energy efficiency up to 30% (full load) and 60% (part load) under low condensing temperatures. This is mainly due to three improvements: the adaptation of the internal volume ratio (Vi) at full and part load to the corresponding lower pressure ratios, the extension of the application limits towards low condensing temperatures and the optimization of the oil management system. The proven and well-known reliability of the CSH compact screws was the benchmark for the CSW further development. In addition, the motors have been adjusted to the new operating envelope: smaller contactors, cables and fuses can be used, resulting in lower installation costs.
2. What is the range of the new CSW series?
The new CSW series comprises 12 compressor models with displacements from 195m3/h to 910m3/h tailored to low condensing temperature application conditions and different refrigerants.
3. What comes with the compressor (accessories)?
Our “Standard CSW Scope of Delivery” contains comprehensive equipment already. In addition, a wide range of accessories is available.
4. Where can I find the CSW application limits and literature?
Information about our CSW series can be found in our product brochure SP-172. http://www.bitzer.de/download/download.php?P=/doc/&N=sp-172-2.pdf&ccode=DE> For further information please see our extensive technical documentation. http://www.bitzer.de/eng/documentation/list/doc/ov/s>
BITZER CSW - FAQs 1
5. What is the benefit of an economizer operation? Is it possible with CSW compressors? Economizer operation increases screw compressor efficiency as well as cooling capacity. It was obvious to offer this option in our highly developed CSW compressors. For more detailed information please see SH- 170-3; page 37 ff, http://www.bitzer.de/download/download.php?P=/doc/&N=sh-170-3.pdf&ccode=DE
6. Which types of additional cooling require the new CSW
compressors? In usual CSW application cases, there is no additional cooling necessary.
7. Are CSW compressors suitable for variable speed drive?
Although the capacity control by the integrated slide valve is possible in 4-step or stepless mode, CSW compressors are suitable for frequency inverter use, as alternative capacity control mechanisms in the 1450 RPM to 3500 RPM range. For system design and inverter selection please consult BITZER.
8. Is the CSW series compatible with flooded evaporator systems?
Yes, in combination with secondary oil separator. BITZER offers oil separators from the OAF series, especially developed for flooded application. As alternatives the standard OA or the horizontal OAH series are available. For selection of the right BITZER equipment and accessories please contact us.
9. Can I fit a new CSW compressor into an existing water cooled
chiller production line without any changes? Yes, the optimized CSW compressors are fully compatible with the CSH compressors or the former CSW versions. We have kept the same fixing points and suction and discharge connection positions. In other words, no change in the chiller production process when switching from one BITZER semi hermetic compact screw type to another. However, there is the potential for extended application range towards lower condensing temperatures.
10. How much oil should be charged in a CSW compressor?
CSW compressors are factory charged. For systems with DX evaporators no additional oil charge is necessary. Additional oil charge may be required with flooded design but is dependent on system configuration.
BITZER CSW - FAQs 2
11. Which oils have been recommended for use with BITZER CSW compressors? Polyol ester oil BSE170 is used for HFC refrigerant R134a. For R22 refrigerant the complex ester oil B320 SH is required. For information about alternative oil types please contact BITZER.
12. How do I determine the proper oil level?
The CSW compressors are equipped with a sight glass. The oil level should be at or slightly above the center of the sight glass while operating. For a permanent oil level monitoring during operation, an oil level control is available as an option.
