1. Determine values for the resistors Rref, Rs , and RC. Assume the dc value of vo = -7.5 V.

2 Implement the circuit in Pspice and check the dc operating points. Use the resistor values
calculated in step 1 as initial values in the circuit. Adjust the resistors values necessary to
realize the dc currents and voltages specified in the circuit diagram and in step 1. For the
PNP transistors use the Q2N3906 and Q2N3904 for the NPN BJTs.

3. Use Pspice to determine the differential mode voltage gain of the amplifier.

4. Use Pspice to determine the CMRR of the amplifier.

5. Use Pspice to determine the differential mode input impedance and output impedance of the
amplifier.
2. Pspice schematic with initial resistor values and resulting dc voltages and currents.

Increase Rs to get closer to desired values. Modified circuit shown below.

3. The one volt ac source is essentially a differential input. The resulting output voltage as a
function of frequency is shown on the next page for a frequency range from 1kHz to1 GHz. The
differential gain is 44.
4. Obtain common mode gain by removing ground from base of Q2 and connecting base of Q2
to base of Q1. Bode plot of common mode gain shown below. Acm = 0.024. Common mode
rejection ratio CMRR = 44/(0.024) = 1,833,

5. To get Rid, divide the input voltage of 1 V by the small signal base current ib1. The small
signal base current versus frequency is shown below. At midband ib1 ≈ 8 microamps

Rid = 1V/9x10-6 ≈ 125 kΩ

To get Rod, move the ac source from the base of Q1 to the output terminal and ground and
ground the base of Q1 with base of Q2 already grounded. Divide the voltage put out by the
source by the ac current put out by the source to obtain Rod. Bode plot of voltage source current
is plotted on next page.
Rod = 1V/4.3x10-5A ≈ 23 kΩ
