Biology I: Chapter 7.

3 Contract Work

1. Watch the class notes video at some point (will be posted on G. Classroom by Monday)
2. Finish Cell Transport foldable.
3. Complete 2 of the following project options:
a. Research the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. Create a public service
announcement video about why it is unsafe to drink salt water. Include a
summary of the story of the USS Indianapolis as well as an explanation of how
osmosis works and why that makes drinking salt water unsafe. Must include at
least 1 visual.
b. Design an advertising brochure for hunters explaining the science behind using
animal pheromones to attract animals. Include the science behind diffusion, at
least 1 visual illustrating diffusion, and then make a sales pitch for your
diffusion-based pheromone project.
c. Research the process behind the sodium-potassium pump in the body. Create a
presentation for Coach Hubbard explaining what kind of cellular transport this is,
and how the process leads to muscle movement. Also include an explanation of
what causes muscle cramps and offer solutions for relieving them.
d. Create a model for our Biology classes illustrating facilitated diffusion in the cell
membrane. The model may be made of food or any other non-perishable items.
The model must accurately show the cell membrane, protein channels,
molecules, and the direction of molecule movement.
e. Arrange a musical soundtrack for this unit. You should pick at least one song
that would illustrate each of the following: the phospholipid bilayer, diffusion,
facilitated diffusion, osmosis, active transport, and bulk active transport. Each
song must include an explanation of how the song accurately describes each
concept.

Submit this paper with your final products no later than Friday, November 3. The foldable will
count as 1 homework grade. The two projects will count as 33% each toward your test grade.
Rather than take the same test as your classmates, you will take an abbreviated version.

“I understand the terms of this contract work. I also understand that if I do not complete any of
the required assignments, I will receive a grade of 0 for each.”
