QA/QC Inspector – Mechanical

Key responsibilities:

 Manage pre-shutdown, shutdown and post shutdown day or night aspects of an integrity static scope of
works at Qatargas North side, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable delivery of the scope goals.
 Implement and drive ASME PCC-1 & 2 standards compliance while reviewing and approving flange/joint
bolt integrity documents and plans developed by Shutdown Contractor or his Sub-contractor.
 Ensure Shutdown Contractor or his Sub-contractor fully comply with Joint Integrity Management
procedures and philosophy that is reviewed and approved.
 Represent Qatargas as a technical authority in shutdown related meetings from concept to completion
 Represent Qatargas in meetings and presentations on Joint Integrity issues.
 Manage, interpret and approve procedures, reporting systems and the delivery of Qatargas shutdown
requirements including the worked asset Flawless Start-Up Initiative.
 Liaise with various different work groups/companies/disciplines including Vendors, Leak Testing, and
Commissioning, Fabrication etc. as and when required.
 Cooperate with The Hydratight Project Manager in identifying resource required for the project.
 Identify opportunities within the project to generate further profitable revenue.
 Manage, develop and coach Shutdown Contractor or his Sub-contractor personnel in the requirements
of successful deployment of Flange Joint Integrity on the shutdown.
 Organize inspection and implement it at site to optimize performance and quality of service to Qatargas
requirement.

Scope of Work (High Level):

 Line walking, understanding of physical limitations and proposing for safe and right solutions
 Drawings review, correction/updating
 Marking up drawings review and approve
 Work Pack review and approval
 Method of Statement and JSA review and approval
 Database population review and ensure accuracy/correctness
 Tagging inspection and ensuring compliance
 Progress reporting
 Inspection of Joints, faultfinding and identification of remedial work.
 Identification, supervision and monitoring of quality aspects of contractor’s In-situ Machining activities
 Adheres to all Company policies and procedures
 Inspection of mechanical flange, and piping equipment against the specifications of the scope of works
 Inspection of flange related spool fabrication, erection, flange assembly and tightening against the
specifications of the scope of works
 Updates Joint/Flange Management master list under direction of Qatargas Shutdown Coordinator, who
you will work closely with across various tasks in the role.
 Should adhere strictly to SHE&Q policies & procedures such as;
• The health and safety precautions at the work site
• Safety precautions when handling, removing and reinstallation of gaskets
• Hot bolting and live plant procedures and risk assessment
• Pressure, temperature and hostile environmental factors (such as corrosion and vibration) on
the degradation of the bolted assembly
 Should adhere to factors which result in bolt load variation such as;
• Applied and residual load
• The effect of different lubricants on friction losses
• The relative accuracy of different methods of tightening
• The technique for application of tensioned bolt loading
• Joint assembly methods and tightening procedures
• The need to check gaskets, nuts and stud bolts against specification
• The requirement to tag and complete records for assembled joints
• The need to check the compatibility of selected Torque tools and equipment capacity prior to
use.
 Should have sufficient knowledge and experience on;
• The principles of joint component sealing action
• The principles of bolt elongation and tensile stress
• The function of gasket or seal types
• The importance of correct bolt loading
• The effect on bolt load and seal compression using different methods of tightening
• The importance of using correct lubricant
• The importance of correct selection of joint components to comply with the design
specification
• The correct sequence and number of tightening passes required for toque and tensioned bolts
• The principles and techniques used for direct bolt length measurement
• The need for and using reporting procedures when defects or faults in bolt tightening
equipment or its assembly are identified
• The principles of preparing bolted joint connections for assembly
• The need for seal face cleanliness and for nuts to be free running
• The effect of joint alignment and gap uniformity on residual bolt loading
• The importance of gasket storage, handling, preparation and installation
• Good installation practice for bolting, washers and nut orientation for tightening method and
equipment to be used
• The need to report variance from design specifications and tightening procedures
• The principles and requirement for the safe selection, calibration, installation and use of
hydraulic torque and bolt tensioning equipment
• Principles of carrying out bolt de-tensioning and joint breakout safely and correctly
• The important of attending product specific training and following manufacturer’s procedures
for proprietary joint types.
• Why mixing components from different equipment manufacturer is prohibited
• The principles of inspection after tightening and the procedure and the techniques to be used
such as “break loose” tests (Check passes) and bolt tightness Tap-test
• The requirements for the storage, preparation, maintenance and calibration of torque tools
and bolt tensioning equipment for its safe use
 Ability to,
- Recognize and guide in rectifying the faults with torque or tensioning equipment
- Interpret joint or flange manufacturer identifying marks
- Identify defects, distortion and surface irregularities on flange sealing faces and threads
 Demonstrate ability in;
• Preparation of all joint components
• Correct selection and assembly joint components
• Diagnosis and rectification of problems with hydraulic equipment
• Selection and correct installation of hydraulic torque or tensioning equipment
• Correct application of various tightening techniques
• Carrying out specified tightening sequence and subsequent tightening passes to ensure axial
alignment and squareness of the joint assembly
• Carrying out joint breakout safely and correctly
• Carrying bolt ‘break loose’ tests (check passes) to check integrity of assembled tensioned
assembly
• Completion of a joint record sheet
• Integrity and inspection checks of completed joint assembly
• Maintaining a personnel portfolio of joint assembly
Candidates wishing to be considering for this position should possess the following qualifications /
experience:
 Good educational background preferably a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with lower
qualification also can be considered provided they have specific work experience and skills that exactly
meets Qatargas requirements.
 A safety qualification to NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing safely Standard or equivalent is
desirable.
 Experience of working on, supervising or managing major shutdowns or construction projects.
 Good understanding of bolt load calculation theory and knowledge of bolted joint technology.
 Good understanding of the principles of in situ machining is desirable.
 Capable of interpreting work scope, work/test packs, piping specifications, P&IDs, Isometrics and other
engineering drawings
 Capable of operating as part of a multi-cultural team and as a Qatargas representative on a shutdown,
working under minimum supervision.
 Positive attitude – consistent willingness to develop and adapt-overcome problems and create
opportunities.
 Good interpersonal skills, communication and organizational skills.
 Ability to work under extreme pressure, tight deadlines and constantly shifting priorities due to changes
to the original schedule.
 The ability to manage multiple discipline relationships and develop win - win outcomes with Qatargas.
 Knowledge of Flange Joint Integrity software(s), Flange Break Registers or equivalent is desirable.
 Use of Microsoft Office Packages including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 Team and goal orientated, results driven
 Awareness of the full range of tools & accessories and its functions using for flange management.
