the formation: Cycloclypeus (Katacycloclypeus) annulatus, Cycloclypeus (K.)
biplicatus, Flosculinella bontangensis, Lepidocyclina (Nephrolepidina)
sumatrensis, Lepidocyclina (N.) angulosa, Miogypsina polymorpha,
Amphistegina sp., Operculina sp, Sphaerogypsina globula.
Stratigraphic Relationship : Unconformably overlain by the Endut
Volcanics; conformably overlain by or faulted contact with the Sereweh
Formation (Claystone Member) and the Limestone Member of Sareweh
Formation; intruded by theAndesite of LEUWIDAMAR.

intensely weathered to light micaceous sandy clay, locally limonitic.
Fossil Content : Fusulinids, echinoids spines, bryozoa and plants (van Emmichoven, 1939)
Stratigraphic Relationship : Unconformaby underlies the Jambu Volcanics intruded by Embuoi Complex and
Sintang Intrusion; faulted against and apparently unconformaby underlies the
Selangkai Group; apparently unconformaby underlies but possibly faulted
against the Payak and Pedawan Formations.

shale; intercalated by conglomerate, conglomeratic sandstone, tuff and lava; in
places conglomerate with components of basalt, andesite, diorite, shale, silicified
tuff, schist and quartz. Generally these rocks are dense, and partly the shale is
silicified.

Type Locality : Bantimala village, 20 km northeast of Pangkajene, South of Sulawesi
Description : The unit consists of peridotite, mostly serpentinized, dark green to blackish green
in color and commonly brecciated and sheared through thrust faults towards the
southwest. Massive parts show layering structure that locally contain nodules and
lenses of chromite. The Metamorphic rocks mainly consist of schist with few
gneisses and eclogite. The Schist comprises glaucophane schist, garnet schist,
amphibolite schist, muscovite-tremolite- actinolite schist, etc. Whereas the the
gneissses consist of albite-orthoclase gneiss and quartz-feldspar gneiss. The
Melange complex consists of blocks of different rocks, such as greywacke,
breccia, conglomerate, silicified sandstone, grey shale, red shale, red radiolarian
chert, slate, schist, ultramafics, basalt, diorite and clay.

Stratigraphic Relationship : The three sub-units have a tectonic contact each other. The Bantimala Tectonic
Complex has tectonic contact with the Tertiary Rocks of the West Sulawesi

ripple marks. Fining upwards into glauconitic and silty sandstones and well
bedded calcareous mudstones with carbonate nodules and sparse marine fauna.
Locally this argillaceous foraminiferal limestone and weakly cross-bedded
foraminiferal bioccalcarenites with rare glauconite.
Fossil Content : A sample of skeletal calcarenite contains coral fragments and the following

dark grey to black in colour. Lava commonly displays columnar and sheeted
jointing. The breccia consists mostly of coarse components, 15-60 cm, mainly
basaltic with small amounts of andesitic material, cemented with coarse tuff to
lapilli, and contains abundant pyroxene fragments.

Description : Non-calcareous and calcareous sandstone, mudstone, siltstone, and minor
conglomerate; rare calcarenite. Commonly well bedded, in places cross-bedded,
but mudstone also massive. Moderately consolidated. In places intercalations of
lignite. Sandstone: olive-grey, poorly sorted, porous, friable, polymictic, but with
quartz dominant over lithic clasts. Siltstone: greenish grey to olive-grey,
commonly micaceous. Mudstone: greenish grey to bluish grey. Conglomerate:
polymictic; clast size from granule to 1 m, but mostly pebbles.

Globorotalia acostaensis, Gr. crassaformis, Gr. humerosa, Gr. menardii, Gr.

green blocky aphanitic spilitic lava. Some white clay interbeds. Manganese rich
horizon (umbers with bauxite nodule) near Balok Gadang, transgressive dolomite
veins and pervasive dolomitisation locally.
Slate, red argillites, limestones, green schist, meta siltstones, altered porphyritic
basic meta volcanics, red cherts and spilitic lava found as float.

Type Locality : Bilungala River, to the east of Gorontalo, North Sulawesi
Description : Consist dominantly of breccia, agglomerate, lava and tuff. The lava flows are
generally andesitic to basaltic. The breccias are very coarse-grained, andesitic
composition, locally conglomeratic, with intercalations of tuff, sandstone and
claystone, and lenses of limestone. Small foraminifera fossils occur in marly clay.
Koperberg (1928) reported the occurrence of andesitic dykes in this unit. In the
area between Molobok and Nuangan along the SE coast, some of these volcanic
rocks are silicified, and contain very fine reddish-brown veinlets of quartz.
Mineralization, including gold and silver, occur in quartz veins in the river near
Paslaten village.
Fossil Content : Smaller foraminifera in marly clay. Description is not given

Formation (either the volcanic or sedimentary facies).

Stratigraphic Relationship : Unconformable on the underlying basement. The quartz rich sandstones have

Description : Diorite form a suite of intrusives which also include granite, granodiorite, locally
trachyte, gabbro and lamprophyre. Mineralogically they corespond to the I - type
granitoids. These intrusives were probably emplaced in several episodes. Pyrite
and chalcopyrite mineralization occur around some of the Bone Granitoid Suite
intrusives.

makes up an island arc sequence formed from west-directed subduction along the
Early Miocene North Sulawesi Arc, prior to that Arc's collision with the Sula
Platform in the Middle Miocene. Bone Dioritic Suite was introduced by Trail
(1972) for the diorite (granitoid) exposed to the east of the Gorontalo Fault. An
age of 16 m.a. (early-Middle Miocene) was obtained for the Bone Diorite by
Lowder & Dow (1978).

Description : Black to grey compact basalt and greenish-grey andesite and dacitic members,
lava, crystal-lithic tuff, locally with accretionary lapili and volcanic breccia,
medium to fine sandstone at the base, overlying the Kerabai Volcanics in the
southeast of the Bunga Hill.
Fossil Content : -
Stratigraphic Relationship : Unconformable on Ketapang Complex and Kerabai volcanics; non conformable
on Sukadana Granite; apparently overlies Sangiyang granite; partial equivalent to
Kerabai Volcanics; basal sandstone is possibly equivalent to the Kampari
Sandstone in Nangataman Sheet.

Type Locality : Buru Mountain, Waghete and Omba Sheets, Irian Jaya.
Description : Bluish grey mudstone, shale, sandstone micaceous-calcareous mudstone and
shell bed, conglomerate limestone and lignite.
Fossil Content : Belford (1983) recorded a varied and abundant foraminiferal fauna in the Buru
Formation which includes the following species; Globigerina bulloides,
Globigerinoides extremus, Globigerinoides obliquus, Gs. subquadratus, Gs.
quadrinlobatus group, Globoquadrina altispira, Orbulina universa,
Globorotalia cultrata group, Globorotalia acostaensis, Gr. continuosa, Gr.
obesa, Gr. siakensis, Hastigerina siphonifera, Pullenia abliquiloculata,
Sphaeroidinella dehiscens, Spaeroidinellopsis kochi, Ammonia beccarii,
Brizalina sp., Elphidium sp, Pseudorotalia catilliformis, Pseudorotalia
schroeteriana.
Stratigraphic Relationship : The Buru Formation lies conformably on the Yawee Limestone and is
unconformably overlain by Dakebo Formation.
Thickness : 2350 - 4000 m
Distribution : Central Ranges and Southern Plain and Birds Head Region: Waghete, Omba, Fak-
Fak Sheets.

serpentinite, harzburgite, zones of milky quartz and chloritic rock of fault contact;
gently to moderate dipping foliation caused by shearing of mylonitisation.
