 PREAMBLE TO BILL OF QUANTITIES

1. This preamble to the Schedule of items/Bill of Quantities is an integral part of the

schedule and shall have as much force as though this is incorporated into the
description of the item themselves.
2. The contractor shall carefully go through the invitation to tender, general
conditions of contract, special conditions of contract, specifications and bill of
quantities and include in the rates any sum he may consider necessary to cover the
fulfillment of the various requirements contained therein. The unit rates, stated in
the BOQ for respective items of work include every necessary to complete the
said items of work within the contemplation of contract and beyond unit rates no
extra payment will be allowed for any subsidiary and enabling operations and/or
any incidental or contingent work, labour materials, tools and plant, etc.
3. The quantities of items of work in BOQ are probable quantities only; it must be
clearly understood that the contract is not a lump sum contract, that neither the
probable quantities nor the value of individual items of work nor aggregate value
of entire work will form part of contract and Corpn. does not in any way assure
contactor or guarantee that probable quantities are correct or that work should
correspond thereto only. No change in rates shall be admissible on account of any
variation in quantities.
4. All measurements will be in metric units, unless otherwise specified.
5. Rates in BOQ shall also include, but not be limited to, cost of the following:
5.1 Transportation of constructional plant, personnel etc. to site and their with-drawl
on completion of work.
5.2 Storage of materials at site.
5.3 Supplying, transporting to site, unloading, protecting and handling of all
materials.
5.4 Work at all heights and depths and to all leads, unless otherwise specified in the
BOQ
5.5 Accommodation of contractor’s staff and labour.
5.6 All freights, taxes, levies, duties, insurance and royalties.
5.7 Necessary care and protection against damage to equipment, if any, supplied by
Corpn and/or other contractors.
5.8 Clearing of all waste from site after completion of work
6.0 Technical abbreviations used in BOQ or elsewhere in tender documents shall
have following meanings.

6. Provided that there is any provision in the specification contrary to the provision
of the BOQ and unless a different intention appears, or directed otherwise by
engineer, the provision of BOQ shall override and prevail, to the extent of such
contradiction, over the provision of the specification.
