Course: Introduction to AVID
BHAG/Overarching Course Goal: Learners will be able to explain the foundational components of the AVID elective prior
to entering the 8th grade AVID elective.
Learning Goal
Foundational:
Learners will be able to take Cornell
Notes independently and use them
as study material for various courses.
Learners will be able to identify and
articulate points of confusion in
various courses.
Learners will be able to “Mark the
Text” when reading and successfully
identify the author’s purpose.
Application:
Learners will be able to identify
which organization strategies and
tools work best for them.
Integration:
Learners will be able to develop
organizational and communication
skills which will enable them to have
a smoother transition into 8th grade
and ultimately help them get
accepted into their desired high
school.
Human Dimension/ Caring:
Learners will be able to identify
specifics aspects of AVID they may
need further assistance with when
the school year begins and develop a
plan for acquiring help.
Learners will create a plan to help
new students that were not able to
take this introductory course, acquire
the essentials of AVID.
Learning-How-To-Learn:
Learners will be able to articulate
how the essentials of AVID can help
them be successful in their other
courses.
