STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP) GUIDELINES FOR

DISPOSAL OF OLD/OBSOLETE MATERIAL & INSTRUMENTS BEYOND


ECONOMIC REPAIRS
The following action to be taken before declaring materials/equipments obsolete/old/beyond
economic repair (BER):

a) The materials/instruments will continue to be used in service as long as they can be


maintained or upgraded economically.

b) The materials shall be processed for condemnation only when they can not be upgraded or
maintained economically.

c) Material/Instruments includes tools/tackles - scaffolding pipes, gratings, clamps, NDT


Instruments (Yoke, UT machines, D meter), calibration instruments etc.

d) Machines includes welding machine, grinding machine, cutting machine, drilling machine
etc.

e) The defective equipments/instruments are identified with tag (Repair denoted as “R” and
rejected denoted as “X”).

f) The defective equipments/instruments which are tagged with “R” sent to the repair works
immediately and details for same are entered in material register.

g) The defective clamps, scaffolding pipes and alike materials are identified with red color
stripe at the ends.

h) The rejected materials which are denoted with red color strip and “X” are stacked at the
warehouse and then within 2 to 3 days disposed of to the scrap buyer.

i) The machines/instruments/equipments which are denoted as “R” for repair are first kept at
the store house and then within 2 to 3 days sent for repair and calibration. The recalibrated
and repaired items with calibration certificates are kept at office/store area.
