NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

Chemical Engineering Lab I

General Instructions

1. Each group will perform 6 experiments in this Semester according to their laboratory
schedule. Lab manuals and other general instructions can be found on the IVLE page.

2. Student groupings are formed randomly.

3. Students need to attend a briefing session on the Saturday of Week 1 and take the
safety quiz on the Saturday of Week 2.

4. Students have to report their attendance individually to lab officers at the counter in
EW2-04-02 not more than 30 minutes after the commencement of the laboratory.

5. Risk assessment for each experiment should be performed prior to starting any
practical work. Safety glasses, lab coat and covered shoes shall be worn at all times
during lab sessions (Students are required to bring their own safety glasses and
lab coat to the lab).

6. Experimental data sheets should be prepared before the lab starts. It should not be
written in pencil and must be signed by the demonstrator in charge of the experiment.

7. There will be viva on the experiment you are performing BEFORE the experiment is
finished.

8. Students are required to submit a written group report (with signed raw data sheet and
risk assessment form) to room EW2-04-02 at the beginning of their next lab session.
Reports for the 6th experiment should be submitted to the lab no later than one week
after the laboratory session.
A softcopy of the report should be uploaded onto IVLE within a day after the
hardcopy submission.
Software to track report copying will be installed.

9. Students should leave their bags in the lockers provided and are encouraged to bring
their own locks.

10. Module assessment: Lab report (60%), Viva (25%), Safety Test (10%) and Peer
Review (5%)
