The outlook for a Physician career is good because the predicted job growth from 2015-
Career #1:
2025 is overall fairly high. The Provincial outlook is expected to grow by 1.5% on average,
Pediatrician every year from 2016-2020, than grow at 2.2% annually from 2020-2025. There were also
Specialist Physicians (NOC 3111)
predictions of +230 job openings in 2016, +200 in 2020 and +250. This, along with an
expected 2,130 job openings in B.C. over 10 years, gives the occupation a good outlook.
Finally, the job openings over the 10 years are expected to consist of 1,110 (52.1%) to be
caused by economic growth and the other 1,020 (47.9%) to replace retiring workers.

The outlook for a career in psychology is still good, but not as many new job openings as a
Career #2:
Physician. It is expected that there will be +1.5% addition to the annual employment
Counselling Psychologist growth rate from 2016-2020 and +2.0% from 2020-2025. The job openings are not as high
Psychologists (NOC 4151)
as a Physician because there was expected to be 150 new job openings in 2016, 130 in
2020 and 140 in 2025, allowing for 1,350 total job openings over the 10 years. Out of these
job openings, only 520 (38.5%) are caused by economic growth, while 830 (61.7%) are
replacing retiring workers.
