Professor Bruce said: "When I was 18 years old I attended the Froebel
Institute at Roehampton where I learnt the Froebelian principles for early
childhood education. It was one of the most important moments in my life as
it gave me the navigational tools needed to guide me through my career – the
same tools that guide me today.

"When I learnt that I had been appointed CBE I was thrilled. I saw it as a very
public recognition of the Froebelian approach to education and all the great
ideas and good practice that come out of Roehampton University – still the
most distinguished centre for Froebelian practice in the UK."

Director of the Early Childhood Research Centre (ECRC) at Roehampton

University, Professor Kevin J. Brehony, said:

"Professor Bruce's CBE is a reflection of her outstanding integrity and her

steadfast commitment to the Froebelian principles and values along with their
application to the care and education of children in their early years.

"Tina is a very 'hands on' Visiting Professor who has contributed enormously
to the work of the ECRC. I know the educators at Roehampton University and
all those practitioners who have worked with or been trained by Professor
Bruce, will join me in congratulating her for this well-deserved award and for
joining the very small and distinguished group of honoured academics at
Roehampton University."

This latest recognition of excellence further strengthens the reputation of the

University’s School of Education, which the Research Assessment Exercise
(RAE) recently ranked third out of the UK’s post-92 universities for research in
education.
