SILVER LAKES GARDEN CLUB MEETING MINUTES

JANUARY 10, 2018

The meeting was called to order by Co-Chr. Margaret Weber at 4:02. Twenty-three members
were in attendance at that time. See attached attendance sheet for complete attendance.
Minutes of 1/4/18 were approved as distributed through email.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Chautzie Wood reported a cash balance of $7,650.34 in our
account. She reminded members to file for reimbursement on the appropriate form and
always with a receipt. Please do not mix personal items with the reimbursable items.

The Cheeseburger in Paradise Major Event: Event Chair Karen Hagen thanked Kathy, Jane, and
Darlene for their work in developing visuals for marketing the event.
Dress for the event will be colorful tops (any) with leis furnished by the committee.
Food will be cheeseburgers, coleslaw, beans, chips, pickles chex-mix and pretzels,
and Key Lime pie with raspberry sauce. Coffee and water will be set up as well.
Grill men are Charlie (Gloria), John (Maggie), Woody (Chautzie), Steve (Mel), Dave (Mary
Jo), Steve (Suzy) and Bob (Margaret). Bob will start the grills. Cooking will start at 4:30
and burgers will go on at 5:15.
Runners from grill to plate are Ann Thomas and Joyce Braungart.
Two men are still needed for trash management.
All members are on the Clean Up Committee
There is a center-piece making session at Joan’s house on Wed., 1/17 at 10:00.
Friday all members will assemble for decorating and set up at 4:30. Afterwards we will
move on to The Welcome Back Party in Silver Club House. BYOB and RSVP by 1/17.
Saturday the Food Committee will meet to slice tomatoes and set out food for tables.
Wednesday 1/17, at !:00, all who are able will meet at Joan Anderson’s back porch to
finish constructing palm centerpieces. The address is 1367 SLBD.

The Watering Schedule: Chair Chautzie Wood distributed watering schedules for now through
next October. Areas to be covered include Diamond Club House, Silver Club House, and Happy
Valley Pool. Descriptions as to tasks therein are attached to that sheet. This year we are
divided into four teams of seven members.

Social and Membership: Chair Kathy Bisonic reported that membership is currently at 33.
Ads have been placed in the Coffee Notes to advertise Garden Club activities. Cathy also
distributed invitations to the Welcome Back party.

Education: Co-Chairs Jane Barry and Gail Miller reported on two planned and a third
anticipated community education opportunities.
The first is “Growing Good Health with the Tower Garden” by member Nancy Kroupa on
January 23 in DCH from 1:00-2:30. An advertisement/invitation to be used for publicity was
distributed to all members.
The second event on February 23 is a Flower Arranging Seminar by Kathleen Hawlyruk. A fixed

number of tickets will be sold. Discussion is on-going as to whom the first opportunities will be
extended.
The third event will be in March and will be a garden tour with “education” at each stop.
Gail will investigate the possibility of a second flower arranging seminar by Kathleen.
A meeting of the Education Committee is scheduled for 1/15 at 1:00.

Public Relations: Chair Jolene Smith reported that another poster for the Raffle Sale is
installed.
She circulated a master sample of the “branding piece” to be placed on each table for our
“Paradise” event. It was proofed by the group.

Memorial Garden: Co-Chair Gloria Padula reports that the bench as been damaged and that
she and Co-Chair Mal Presgraves will investigate a remedy.

Bake Sale: Chair Joyce Braungart reports that the income from #1 sale was $83.00. Consensus
is that pies sell the best and that it takes about seven bakers per sale. She circulated a sign-up
sheet for bakers and workers.

Raffle: Chairman Joan Anderson reports that all is going well. Because of the unusal calendar
this year, the drawing was postponed until 1/15. For those who paid for “Paradise” tickets an
adjustment will be made.

Old Business: Margaret, Maggie, Gloria, and Kathy signed up to plant the window boxes.
The palms and pots voted on last year for the entrance to DCH will be purchased.

New Business: General Co-Chair Margaret asks all members to be thinking about projects
to which we could dedicate our funds this year. She will also investigate plans for the front
entrance project. The Club spent $4,000 last year for an architectural plan for that project.
Donna Mathieson was appointed Sunshine Chairman. A Welcome Back arrangement was
approved for member Barb Asal at the loss of her husband Bill.

Peggy announced that regular meetings will be held every other week in SCH at 4:00.
NEXT MEETING: JANUARY 24, SCH AT 4:00.
