Assignment Base on: Study on some fabric faults during

processing.
Given bellow some faults in fabric & its cases & remedies.
Fabric faults are responsible for major defects found by the garment industry.
Due to the increasing demand for quality fabrics, high quality requirements are
today greater since customer has become more aware of “Non-quality”
problems. In order to avoid fabric rejection, mills have to produce fabrics of high
quality, constantly. Often inspectors are given the responsibility of inspecting
finished garments without adequate training in fabric defects and their causes.
The ultimate solution, of course, is to provide actual examples or photographs
of both major and minor defects.
1. Hole Mark
Causes:
a. Holes are the results of yarn breakage or yarn cracks.
b. During loop formation the yarn breaks in the rejoin of the needle hook.

Remedies:
a. Yarn strength must be sufficient to withstand the stretch as well as uniform.
b. Use proper count of yarn.
c. Correctly set of yarn feeder.

2. Needle Mark
Causes:
a. When a needle breaks down then needle mark comes along the fabrics.
b. If a needle or needle hook is slightly bends then needle mark comes on the fabrics.
Remedies:
a. Needle should be straight as well as from broken latch.

3. Star Mark
Causes:
a. Yarn tension variation during production.
b. Buckling of the needle latch.
c. Low G.S.M fabric production.
Remedies:
a. Maintain same Yarn tension during production.
b. Use good conditioned needles.

4. Yarn missing
A narrow streak running parallel with weft threads caused due to absence of weft.

CAUSES:
a. Faulty let-off and take-up motion.
b. Faulty weft-stop motion.
c. Fell of the cloth not adjusted after loom stoppage for mending.

Remedies:
When there are only two adjacent picks missing, the fault can be rectified by
combing in both directions using a metallic comb. This may fill the bare patch
formed due to missing ends.

5. Crease mark:
In knit dyeing crease mark is a common dyeing fault

Causes:
a. More cycle times.
b. Faulty plaiting device.
c. Slack on tight selvedge causes creases at an angle to each selvedge.
d. Incorrectly set bowed expander.
e. Variation of heating and cooling rate.
f. Improper fabric movement.

Remedies:
a. Anti- creasing agents are used to avoid crease mark problem.

6. Oil marks on fabric:

Causes:
a. Inadequate emulsification/ removal of Knitting oil.
b. Improper removal of Silicone oil from Elastane/ lycra blends.
Remedies:

a. Use of a strong emulsifier for knitting oil removal like Tula hem Wettex SRL
b. After every process, if possible check filter & clean it.

7. Thick & Thin Places

It causes due to yarn problem. If thick & thin places remain in yam &
fabric is knitted with that yarn, then, this problem found in fabric.

8.Fly Contaminations

Causes

a. Presence of dead fibers & other foreign materials, such as; dyed fibers,
husk & synthetic fibers etc.
b. Dead fibers do not pick up color during Dyeing.

Remedies

a. Use rich fiber mixing for the yarns, to be used for Knitting, in order to
have less dead fibers, appearing in the fabric.
b. Rigid control measures in the Blow Room, to prevent the mixing of
foreign matters in the Cotton mixing.

9. Lycra out

Causes:

a. Fail to catch the Lycra yarn by needle.

b. Low tension of Lycra yarn.
c. Lycra yarn breakage.
d. Faulty auto stop motion

Remedies:

a. Ensure the feed of lycra yarn to every needle.

b. The tension of lycra yarn should be uniform.
c. Auto stop motion should work properly.

10. Dust

Causes:

a. Due to dirty finishing floor.

b. Unclean the trolley of finishing floor.
c. Due to unclean the m/c surface.
d. Unclean the compactor m/c after using the varies color of
fabrics.

Remedies:

a. To keep clean the finishing floor.

b. Clean the trolley of finishing floor.
c. To clean the m/c surface.
d. Clean the compactor m/c after using varies color of fabrics.

CONCLUSION: Detection of faults during production of knitted fabric is

crucial for improved quality and productivity. This presentation will present and
discuss the detection of faults and malfunctions during the production remedies
of knitted fabric. We believe that our work will help the knitters to identify the
source of de-tested faults & proposes specific solutions for theses faults causes.
So, Knitters can take necessary remedial steps to overcome the faults.
