ASSIGNMENT TASK/ DESCRIPTION

Prepare a research proposal relating to your area of interest. The research proposal should
be about 1500 words and should cover the following aspects:

The working title

The background and academic context
The research objectives
The research methods
Research ethics
The timescale and resources

This task provides evidence for grading criterion P1.1, P1.2, P1.3, P1.4 and P1.5.

Assessment Criteria:

The student will be awarded a PASS grade if he/she:

P1.1: Formulate and record possible research project
outline specifications
P1.2: Identify the factors that contribute to the process of
PASS research project selection
P1.3: Undertake a critical review of key references
P1.4: Produce a research project specification
P1.5: Provide an appropriate plan and procedures for the
agreed research specification
The student will be awarded a MERIT if he/she along with
the criteria for PASS:
MERIT (M1)  Uses a range of methods (eg. Internet) and
techniques to collect analyze and process
information pertaining to developing the research
question.
  Skillfully develops and analyzes the research
methodology and is able to justify the same.
(Coherently presents and communicates work using
technical language accurately.
A student will be awarded a DISTINCTION if he/she
along with the criteria for MERIT:
DISTINCTION (D1)  Evaluates and synthesize the information related to
research proposal.
 Skillfully justifies the research methodology and is
able to come out with suggestions related to the
research work.

By completing this assignment successfully, the student will achieve the following learning
outcome:-

Assessment Criteria:

1. The work submitted must be your own. You must acknowledge the sources of your
information using the Harvard referencing style.
2. This assignment is to be done on an INDIVIDUAL basis. (They are not GROUP
assignments).
3. The assignment must be typed, and well presented, it must be written in report
format/style. You may, however, incorporate graphs, tables, diagrams and figures into the
body of the report if you wish. (If lengthy, materials of this kind may be attached as
appendices).
4. You must include a bibliography as per Harvard style. This should be on a separate
page.
5. Submitting assignments beyond the deadline will be awarded a maximum of only pass
grade.
