The Immune and Nervous Systems

Immune System Defense system against invaders

Keeps you healthy through white blood cells in

your blood and lymphatic tissues

a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work

together to defend the body against attacks by
“foreign” invaders

Immune Response: the immune system attacks

organisms and substances that invade body
systems and cause diseases.
How our Model
The acetone represents the pathogens trying to enter
the system.

Relates (Immune) The pathogens are entering your system when the
acetone is dripping down the tube

The candle represents the White Blood Cells

When the white blood cells surround the pathogens

the pathogens begin to leave your system

When the acetone catches on fire it represents the

immune system removing the pathogen from the
system
Nervous System
- Coordinates the body’s response to changes in its
internal and external environments
- Sends pulses/ signals to organs
- Dendrites are spread throughout the body and
carry impulses from environment or from other
neurons towards the cell body
- Axons are fibers that carry impulses away from
the cell body
- Axons and Dendrites are clustered into bundles
called Nerves
- Major organs: the brain, spinal cord, and the
peripheral nerves
- Neurons:
- Sensory: carry signals from sense organs spinal
cord brain
- Motor: carry impulses from brain spinal cord
muscle and glands
- Interneurons: connect sensory and motor to carry
impulses between them.
The model represent show the tiny nerves in your hand
How the model transmits signals up the spinal cord to your brain to be

works
processed into an impulse. It goes back down the
spinal cord to the tiny nerves in your hand to send the
message to your muscles, which causes the reflex.

3 1 sensory nerves in hand sends signal to spinal

cord
1
2 signal is sent up the spinal cord to the brain
4
5
3 signal is sent through the brain where it
becomes an impulse
2
4 the impulse is sent back down the spinal cord

5 the impulse is sent through the nerves in the

hand

6 the message is sent to the muscles which

causes the reflex
How the systems
The Nervous gets an impulse to the brain which sends
another impulse to the white blood cells/antibodies in

work together the immune system to fight the pathogens.

In our model, we used the Nervous System board and

added pins and a balloon to the end of it. This way,
when the Nervous System board is activated, it makes
the balloon hit the needles, popping the balloon.

This represents the immune system (needles) being

activated by the nervous system when any diseases
(balloon) try to infect the body.
