Creating and Naming a New Project
When creating a new DP project, name it correctly. This will eliminate many problems that
could occur later. In this example, “Last” is your last name (according to Berklee class lists),
“First” is your first name, “0112233” is your student ID number, and “SA1” is an example of an
abbreviated name for a project or assignment.
Project Folders
When a new DP file is created, a project folder gets made using the name of the file plus the
word “Project”. A project folder must always contain at least the DP file plus an “Audio Files”
folder at the same level in the project folder. Audio files recorded or otherwise created for the
project must be in the Audio files folder. Do not rename the folder or the audio files in it. As
you work on a sequence, other folders, such as the “Analysis Files” and “Undo” folders shown
here, might be created automatically.
Backing Up a Project Folder
Project folders can be backed up in either the “Save As” or “Save a Copy As” dialog by
checking the “Duplicate audio and copy shared samples to project” box:
However, you MUST be careful NOT to save the new project folder in one that already exists.
This would result in nested project folders (shown below), which are sure to cause problems.
Backing Up a DP File
If you want to save a different version or backup of just the file, and keep it in the project
folder, then make sure the “Duplicate audio ….” box is NOT checked when doing a “Save As”
or “Save a Copy As”.
Film Scoring Deptartment Digital Audio File Format, Sample Rate, and Bit Depth
If the New Default file and preferences have been set as taught in FS361, these should
already be OK:
File Format: Interleaved Broadcast Wave
Sample Rate: 48K
Bit Depth: 24 bit
Example Project Track and Mixer Setup
Things to notice:
1. Tracks are in folders, and all tracks are named
2. Patch names are included in the Comments column
3. Instrument tracks and aux tracks for reverb sends are in a VRack (in the mixer)
4. Aux track inputs confirgured properly
5. All audio sources output on stereoMix_bus, ending up at final mix track’s input
6. Master Fader is on stereoMix_bus
7. Only one track (final stereo mix) is assigned to Main Out 12
8. Final stereo mix track’s name includes project and timecode
9. There is a bar 1 and a bar 0. Bar 1 is just for the MIDI data to get set up for the sequence,
and bar 0 includes pickup beats if any.
