1. Company introduction
1.1. Background of the company

Founded in 1988, ALTEN is a French multinational technology consulting and engineering


company with offices in 20 countries.
ALTEN Romania, a subsidiary of the ALTEN Group, was established in Bucharest in 2006
and provides technical advice to its clients.
It has a team of over 500 specialists at its headquarters in Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj and
Iasi. The team serves customers both locally and internationally in the fields of:
telecommunications, banking, automotive, aeronautics, insurance, pharmaceuticals and retail.
The ALTEN Romania team of specialists is involved in software or web development projects,
business analysis, business intelligence, project management, testing, technical support,
automotive and aero engineering, hardware design and engine calibration.

2.1. Presentation of Marketing Dept.

The Marketing Department is the key to good marketing and sales. It promotes and
establishes a business in its niche, based on the products or services the business is offering.
ALTEN is positioned on high-technology Consulting and Engineering and undertakes R&D and
Technology studies for major industrial, telecoms and services sector businesses, also ALTEN’s
headcount is currently over 8,700 employees, of which 87% are top-level engineering
consultants.

2.2. Strategic objectives.

Alten covers the following services: Technology Consulting and Engineering, Network and
Systems Architecture. Such projects represent the very core of technological innovation and are
strategic investments for their customers. This market has recorded estimated growth levels of
more than 6% per annum since 2005.

2.3. Duties and functions of Marketing Dept.

Marketing department has a huge responsibility of making a business viable and


profitable. It needs to do this by creating awareness, engaging customers, researching
competitors and their product, preparing promotional activities and materials and a whole host
of other responsibilities. The Marketing Department needs to have a relationship with the
customer so that they can understand what the customers’ demand from the business and thus
aim to meet those demands. Their customers are shifting their focus to project management,
and conception of R&D projects. Innovation is the key growth factor for their customers,
increasing in the number of projects.

2.4 Core abilities of Marketing Manager

The marketing manager duty may lie with a single member of the team, or it could be a
group responsibility. ALTEN has a group of people working in a hierarchal system who are
responsible for bringing the product of the business to the attention of its targeted customers.
ALTEN’s group has a population of high level engineers with multidisciplinary skills: Real-time
Embedded systems Man Machine Interface, Communicating systems and interface, Information
systems architecture, Mechanical engineering/ Scientific computation and Digital/analogue

ALTEN is involved in the development of new motor vehicle engine functions. In order to
comply with future European Union standards, new driving concepts must be developed. The
aim is to reduce fuel consumption and optimise vehicle performance. Competencies: INCA
(measures), ASCET (specifications) also is involved in the digital simulation of the process
required to curve a razor head during production. The aim is to standardise the parameters that
will define the blade’s final form and also contribute to the razor head’s design. The
development of a model for both the razor head and the tools used in the curving process. A

The key factor in off-shore projects is managing delocalised projects at a competitive cost
price for their customers, the need to meet the demands of compensating markets (offset), until
now, very few near-shore / off-shore projects were completed by ALTEN despite a diversified
offer (Czech Republic, Poland, Vietnam, …) because of vague specifications, high project
coordination costs, difficulty in finding top-level skills, especially in terms of technical
supervision and management, language and confidentiality problems, first experiences with
their competitors have been very disappointing up until now.

R&D outsourcing in Europe represents approximately 6 to 15%, depending on the country,


versus 27% in France. This market covers the following services: Technology Consulting and

3.3 Duties and functions of R&D Dept.

Their duties and functions are: willingness to reference companies that offer: A wide range of
skills, a wide range of services (R&D Consulting, Work Package, PMO, SLI, Doc…)., increasing
number of European projects: International presence is needed, wish for more globalisation of
the services and increasing demand for Work Package and structured Project, referencing of
service providers that are able to provide a diversified resource-oriented offer.

3.4 Core abilities of R&D Manager

The R&D Manager provides support in the creation of new and innovative products. The
incumbent works within several or many of the product divisions as required and assigned. The
Manager assists with diversifying the Company's product offering and facilitates growth into new
or existing markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 Attends weekly cross functional team meetings with R&D, Marketing personnel and others to
discuss projects and associated timelines, goals and objectives.
 Attends live plant trials, as requested.
 Performs appropriate bench work to produce prototype samples of new products.
 Learns the various manufacturing equipment capabilities associated with the processes for
which products may be developed.
 Maintains ongoing research and knowledge of technical service developments inclusive of
potential opportunities for new products and new developments within the industry.
 Partners with co-manufacturers and internal facilities to troubleshoot or optimize product
formulations and production efficiencies.
 Assists with other projects as needed
 15% travel required. Travel may be local, cross country or international.
 Good organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple priorities and strong attention to detail is
required.

3.5. Designing software

Design engineers require specialized software, tools, and apps to research and develop
ideas for new products and their associated systems. They need to be able to create blueprints
and schematics for structures, systems, machines, and equipment and work collaboratively with
other engineers, drafters, and team members, and you need to be able to work productively and
efficiently. That’s why design engineers’ software, tools, and apps need to streamline their
design and development processes rather than hinder them.

QFD is a focused methodology for carefully listening to the voice of the customer and then
effectively responding to those needs and expectations. Client demand in R&D Departments: a
