chamber music performer collaborating with many renowned artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Christoph
Eschenbach, and Pinchas Zukerman in concerts at Orchestra Hall in Chicago, at the Ravinia Festival, the
Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Lucerne Festival, and the Jerusalem
International Chamber Music Festival, among other venues around the world. From 2000 to 2007, he was invited
by Daniel Barenboim to be guest solo viola of Berlin’s Staatsoper and Staatskapelle, and toured with these two
ensembles on their many European and Asian tours, including Wagner’s complete Ring cycle in Japan in 2002.
Li-Kuo Chang has been active as a teacher for many years. Previously on the faculty of Northwestern
University from 1993 to 2008, he has been since 1998 on faculty of Roosevelt University. In 2011, he joined the
Peabody Institute as an artist teacher. He also has been on the faculty of the Affinis Music Festival in Japan since
1992. Chang has given master classes at Indiana University, Northern Illinois University, DePaul University, the
Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the Shanghai Conservatory. His students have garnered
competition prizes and won positions in major orchestras including the Chicago, Detroit, Saint Louis, and
Indianapolis symphonies.Chang studied violin and piano at the Music High School of the Shanghai Conservatory
in his native city. He was a first-prize winner of the Chinese Young Artist Competition, held in Shanghai in 1978.
In 1979, he came to the U.S. on a full scholarship to study at the Eastman School of Music and at the Music
Academy of the West as a young artist fellow. He studied viola with Francis Tursi, Donald McInnes, Milton
Thomas, William Magers, and Paul Doktor. He also has played for William Primrose in Primrose’s master classes.
Li-Kuo Chang lives in Chicago’s East Lakeview neighborhood with his wife Maggie and son Daniel. His
instrument, the famous ex-Henri Vieuxtemps viola, is a rare viola made by G.B. Guadagnini in Turin in 1770.

Brad Pfeil is currently an orchestra director at Neuqua Valley High School where he has taught for the past
