1 INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this document is to ensure that the cargo consisting of Anode Cages of approximately
15 mt unit weight each, which is to be shipped on board a sea-going vessel, is appropriately and
safely stowed and secured for the intended carriage from Polish ports to Belfast, UK.

The cargo to be loaded into the vessel’s hold, tweendeck or deck by use of an appropriate shore
crane. The manual refers only to the seafastening of the cargo which is to be done by the Carrier.

3 STOWAGE OF THE ANODE CAGES ON THE VESSEL

The cages are to be stowed in the hold or on the seagoing vessel’s weather deck.
The actual allowable tank top strength of the vessel’s hatch covers / tank top to be verified and not to
be exceeded.
The cargo to be placed on appropriate dunnage to avoid steel to steel contact and in order to spread
the cargo weight.
Minimum dunnage 70-100 mm square wood is recommended to avoid contact with construction
elements on deck, such as wedges, D-rings, etc.

4 SEAFASTENING CALCULATION
The Seafastening has been calculated as per DNV Lashcon in accordance with the IMO Code of
Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing. The sea transport accelerations affecting the cargo
are presented on the DNV Lashcon calculations below:

Weight of one anode cage taken into consideration is 15 tons.

As per DNV Lashcon calculation the securing of the cargo on deck is considered safe with at least 8
lashing chains (chains dia. 13 mm with minimum breaking strength of 200 kN i.e. MSL = 100 kN):

Document no. Date: 13 March 2017
Doc. Title: SEAFASTENING MANUAL FOR CARRIAGE OF ANODE CAGES Rev.: 03

As per DNV Lashcon calculation the securing of the cargo under deck on the tweendeck is
considered safe with 4 lashing chains
(chains dia. 13 mm with minimum breaking strength of 200 kN i.e. MSL = 100 kN):

As per DNV Lashcon calculation the securing of the cargo under deck in the lower hold is considered
safe with 4 lashing chains
(chains dia. 13 mm with minimum breaking strength of 200 kN i.e. MSL = 100 kN):

The above preliminary calculations take into consideration a GM value of 1,6 m and specified
securing angles.

The actual calculation to be verified and the number of lashing chains applied has to be approved by
the attending marine warranty surveyor.

5 SEAFASTENING SYSTEM

SUMMARY OF REQUIRED NUMBER OF CHAINS:

ANODE CAGES LOADED ON DECK

The Lashcon calculation for deck cargo indicates 4 lashing chains to each side, however for additional
safety (in case of failure of chains or inappropriate securing angles) the minimum required is 5 lashing
chains to each side (in total 10 chains per cargo item).

ANODE CAGES IN THE HOLD / ON TWEEN DECK

The Lashcon calculation for the cargo loaded into the hold and on tween deck indicates 2 lashing
chains to each side, however for additional safety (in case of failure of chains or inappropriate
securing angles), the minimum required is 3 lashing chains to each side (in total 6 chains per cargo
item).

The above is only a guidance as to the minimum required lashing, as the actual number of lashing
chains has to be approved by the attending marine warranty surveyor.

CARGO LOADED ON DECK

The following seafastening system is a minimum requirement for the anode cages loaded on deck:
10 chains in total, 5 pcs on each side:

CARGO LOADED IN THE HOLD AND/OR TWEENDECK

The following securing system is a minimum requirement for the anode cages loaded under deck:
6 chains in total, 3 pcs on each side:

Pic. 8 – Lashing plan for cargo loaded in the hold and tween deck.

The chains to be connected to the cargo in such a manner, that the painted surfaces are not
damaged - appropriate protecting rubbers should be used.

In case of insufficient quantity of lashing points on the deck or in the hold, steel D-rings of appropriate
strength are to be welded to the vessel’s deck or tank top in the hold.

All safety procedures to be considered when welding D-rings: position of fuel tanks to be marked,
welding permits to be obtained, fire-fighting procedures implemented.

6 LIST OF MINIMUM SEAFASTENING MATERIALS

For each of the anode cages, the following minimum seafastening materials are required:

1. At least 10 pcs square wood (approx.100 mm) of at least 1m length under each cage on deck.
2. At least 8 pcs of planks / dunnage under each cage under deck.
3. D-rings welded to the deck or tank top (in case there are no suitable lashing points available).
4. At least 10 sets of 13 mm lashing chains (extension chains to be considered) when on deck.
5. At least 6 sets of 13 mm lashing chains (extension chains to be considered) when under deck.
6. All seafastening materials to be of good standard and appropriately certified.
7. Protecting rubber is to be used in locations where chains touch to the cargo.

7 SUMMARY

1. A toolbox meeting and safety job assessment to be held prior commencement of works. All
relevant safety regulations to be observed, especially with regard to the hot works and works
aloft (on top of hatch covers).

2. With regard to welding of d-rings, always obtain relevant permits for hot works and prepare
appropriate fire-fighting measures. In the hold, the position of fuel tanks to be clearly marked.

3. All welds of D-rings to be 100% visually tested.

4. The Master to sail in favorable weather conditions and to recheck the seafastening in regular
intervals during the voyage.
