INTRODUCTION

Have you noticed that some of your students probably many of your students struggle to

pay attention for even a short period of time? Odds are that’s affecting their retention. The

downside is that they won’t be able to recall information correctly and their learning will be

impaired.

The big problem is that the human brain wasn’t designed to sit still for hours, absorbing

tons of monotonous information. According to Robert Sylwester, author of How to Explain a

Brain, “it seems our brain was designed to pay attention to sudden, dramatic changes and to simply

ignore or monitor subtle differences, steady states, or gradual changes”.

Classroom teachers are in a constant battle for attention, but maybe that’s because they’re

using the wrong tools and methods. Dr. Judy Willis, neuroscientist and middle school science

teacher, suggests that “stories and the use of images, pictures, and visual tools” get students to pay

attention consciously. Fortunately, we might have a solution with the use of Timeline and

Infographics.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research proposal is important for all the teachers. In using this teaching pedagogy, it

allows learners to easily digest information through the use of visual data, charts and statistics

without them getting bored.

RATIONALE

DisTime with Infographics” is a teaching strategy in which Timelines and Infographics are

used in the class discussion so as to easily catch learners’ attention and cater their academic needs.

This teaching strategy targets to increase the learning absorption of the learners by using

compelling communication mediums, the timelines and infographics. With these mediums,

students learn how to summarize lengthy information. With the use of images, colors and main

information, students learn to be more creative, engaging and they can easily share information

without getting bored of the lesson. Students can print, cut and paste in class and they can also

create them online. With this strategy, students learn to easily make connections between the

present and past with colors and entertaining visuals. They also learn to establish relationships and

discerning patterns to create meaningful knowledge which they can present not only in the

classroom but also in the community.

OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this research proposal:

1. Determine the effectiveness of using timeline and infographics in teaching.

2. Improve the teaching – learning process.

3. Promote the use of timeline and infographics to teachers.

METHODOLOGY

This research proposal is an action research design as quantitative research.

PARTICIPANTS

All of the Dapdap High School faculty and learners both Junior and Senior High school

are the target participants.
