BBA - BEHAVIOR-BASED SAFETY is the application of behavioral psychology to promote safe behavior in
the workplace using employee involvement. BBA is a Process through which we can identify, measure and
change a workers behavior. Hazards can be identified by careful evaluation of a workers job and we will
implement good behavior safety either by understanding him the consequences of these hazards due to his
unsafe act or by providing awareness campaigns

COP - CODES OF PRACTICE is practical guides to achieving the standards of health and safety required in
a work site. A code of practice may include explanatory information, recommendations for best practice, or
references to occupational safety and health laws. It should be followed, unless there is another solution
which achieves the same or better result.

CBT - COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING is a process where mastery skills of a worker is identified by an
assessor after evaluating his competency (what he is good for) and conduct training depending on his skills.
No failure can occur.

EMP - EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN is a course of action

developed to mitigate the damage of potential events that could
endanger an organization's ability to function. Such a plan should
include measures that provide for the safety of personnel and, if
possible, property and facilities

ERT - EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM is a group of people who prepare to respond to any emergency
incident. The first person on-scene will typically serve as the Incident Commander (IC), until relieved by a
more senior person

MTI – MEDICALY TREATMENT INJURY an injury resulting professional medical treatment.

FR - FREQUENCY RATE the number of occupational fatalities or injuries expressed as a rate per million
hours worked. This rate is calculated using the following formula:

(Number of occupational fatalities or injuries) x (1,000,000)

(Number of hours worked)

FIFR - FATAL INJURY FREQUENCY RATE the number of fatal injuries per one million hours worked. Fatal
injury means a personal injury resulting in death of the injured person

LTIFR - LOST TIME INJURY FREQUENCY RATE the number of lost time injuries per one million hours
worked. A lost time injury occurs when an employee is injured while carrying out a work-related task and is
then unable for perform the regular duties for a complete shift or period of time after the incident. Lost time
injuries (LTI) include all on-the-job injuries that require a person to stay away from work more than 24 hours

DIFR - DISABLING INJURY FREQUENCY RATE is a ratio related of a disabling injury per 1 million man
hours worked. A disabling injury refers to an injury permanent disability or temporary total disability after the
day of injury. This type of injury impairs a person's ability to perform the tasks he or she had been doing prior
to the injury.

SIFR - SERIOUS INJURY FREQUENCY RATE serious injuries per 1 million man-hours worked. Serious
injury is defined as a personal injury which results in a fracture, loss of a fetus, permanent loss of use of a
body organ, member, function or system, limitation of use of a body organ or member.
TRIFR - TOTAL RECORDABLE INJURY FREQUENCY RATE is the number of fatalities, lost time injuries,
cases or substitute work and other injuries requiring medical treatment by a medical professional per million
hours worked.

IR – INCIDENT RATE The number of fatalities or injuries per 1000 employees. This rate is calculated using
the following formula (number of occupational fatalities or injuries) x (1000)

(Number of employees)

HAZOP – HAZARD AND OPERABILITY STUDIES is a systematic examination of a existing process in

order to identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel or equipment. The intention of
performing a HAZOP is to review the design and engineering issues that may otherwise not have been
found. The technique is based on breaking the overall complex design of the process into a number of
simpler sections called 'nodes' which are then individually reviewed.

JHA - JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS is the beginning of safety inspection of a job. For proper evaluation to find
a hazard, a job is evaluated by dividing it in to step by step. After identifying the hazards JSA begins.

JSA – JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS is a method which is used to identify and control work related hazards and
recommends the safest way to do the job. Short term and long term control measures identified.

JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS analyses a job description and its risks, while HAZOP analyses description
and design of whole system

JSEA - JOB SAFETY ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS considers the environmental as well as health hazards

HIRA – HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND RISK ASSESMENT is a process that consists of a number of
sequential steps such as hazard identification, consequence & frequency assessment, risk estimation based
on the existing controls and recommendations to reduce and effectively managing those risks.

PHMP - PRINCIPAL HAZARD MANAGEMENT PLAN will incorporate controls to reduce the likelihood of a
hazard becoming an incident and also contain mitigation measures should an incident occur. The difference
between a hazard and an incident is that a hazard only has potential, whereas an incident has consequence

POCL – PRE OPERATION CHECK LIST Ensure your machines and equipments were checked before they
are used prior to every shift.

RACE – RESCUE anyone in immediate danger from the fire, if it does not endanger your life
ALARM sound the alarm
CONFINE the fire by closing all doors and windows
EXTINGUISH the fire with a fire extinguisher which can easily be remembered with P.A.S.S
OR
EVACUATE the area if the fire is too large for a fire extinguisher.

P Pull the pin in the nozzle of the extinguisher HOW

A Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire TO
S Squeeze the handle USE A
S Sweep from side to side FIRE
EXTINGUISHER
SOP - STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE, is a set of step-by-step instructions compiled by an
organization to help workers carry out complex routine operations. SOPs aim to achieve efficiency, quality
output and uniformity of performance, while reducing miscommunication and failure to comply with industry
regulations.

SOP also called SWP – SAFE WORK PROCEDURE

SWI - SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS are a set of written instructions that identify the health and safety
issues that may arise from use of the machinery and equipment or be based on a task or process.

A SAFE WORK INSTRUCTION as the name indicates is typically focused on step by step elaborated
instructions while SOP is all about defined system and overall process. In general SWI is a short
summary of the SOP

SWMS - SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENT is a document that outlines the high risk construction work
activities to be carried out at a workplace, the hazards that may arise from these activities, and the measures
to put in place to control the risks.

STOP - SAFETY TRAINING OBSERVATION PROGRAM, a program aimed at preventing incidents and
injuries. STOP is for Employees is a self-observation safety program designed especially for the employees
in your organization. During STOP, participants learn to practice safety awareness and recognize and
eliminate unsafe acts and unsafe conditions-the major causes of workplace injuries.
