What is blood pressure ?

Blood pressure is necessary to supply the organs of the body with oxygen and nutriments.
In the human body the blood is found in blood vessels. They are mainly arteries and veins.
The blood flowing through the blood vessels constantly exerts pressure on the vessel
walls. The pressure is determined by the pumping force of the heart and the elasticity of
blood vessels.
The heart generally contracts and expands again 60 - 80 times per minute on average. In
doing so, it pumps the blood under pressure into the arteries in order to supply the organs of
the body with oxygen and nutriments. The blood vessels branch out more and more until they
become capillary blood vessels (capillaries). This 'plumbing system' offers more or less
resistance to the bloodstream, if it is under enough pressure.
The pressure is highest at the moment of the heartbeat, that is when the heart is contracting.
This pressure is known as the systolic blood pressure. The contraction phase of the heart in
which the blood pressure rises is known as the systole. The blood pressure is at its lowest
between two heartbeats, i.e. when the heart muscle relaxes. The blood pressure at this point is
referred to as the diastolic blood pressure. The phase in which the heart relaxes and the
blood pressure decreases is known as the diastole.
Blood pressure is measured in mmHg. The systolic value is always stated first, then the
diastolic value. For example: 120/80 mmHg means that the systolic blood pressure is 120
mmHg and the diastolic blood pressure is 80 mmHg.1 mmHg is the pressure that one
millimetre (mm) of mercury (Hg) exerts. As a conversion: 1 mmHg = 0.00133 bar.

Ways to measure blood pressure:

1. Always measure at the same time. As people have approx. 100.000 different blood
pressure levels each day, the individual measurements have no validity. Only regular
measurements at the same times of day, over a long period of time, enable a meaningful
assessment of blood pressure.
2. Do not consume nicotine and coffee within an hour before the measurement.
3. In a relaxed position, after resting for 2 to 3 minutes, take the measurement in a sitting
position. Even desk work raises blood pressure by an average of approx. 6 mmHg
systolically and 5 mmHg diastolically.
4. Do not measure under a strong urge to urinate. A full bladder can lead to a blood
pressure increase of approx. 10 mmHg.
5. Before measuring, read the operation instructions closely. The correct handling of blood
pressure monitors ensures the quality of the measurement and leads to accurate
measurement results.
6. When using a wrist-based measuring device, keep the cuff (of the wrist) at the level of
the heart during measurement. In the case of a measuring device on the upper arm, the
cuff on the arm is automatically at the correct height.
7. During the measurement, do not speak or move. Speech increases the values by approx. 6
- 7 mmHg.
8. Between two measurements, wait at least one minute so that the vessels are relieved of
the pressure for a new measurement.
9. Enter the values into the blood pressure diary: In your blood pressure diary, always write
down the measured values together with medication taken as well as the date and time.
10. Measure regularly. Even if your values have improved, you should still continue to check
them as a control measure.

PARAPHRASE

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in the circulatory system, often measured for
diagnosis since it is closely related to the force and rate of the heartbeat and the diameter and
elasticity of the arterial walls. The main goal of measure blood pressure for find there are
abnormal movement from systolic or diastolic and many more benefit if we check blood
pressure one of benefits is at the time you or our family will doing surgical for administering
anaesthetic and this is ways to measure blood pressure :

frist take and prepare equipment. Second, prepare patient are will measure and third,
proper cuff size fourth, place the cuff on arm patient and position the stethocope in the arm
and fifth let Inflate the cuff and listen through stethocope lastly write result.
