21. Derive a mathematical expression for the width of interference fringes obtained in
Young’s double slit experiment with the help of a suitable diagram.
22. Figure shows a 2.0 V potentiometer used for the determination of internal resistance
of 1.5 v cell. The balance point of the cell in open circuit is 76.3 cm. When a resistor
of 9.5 is used in the external circuit of the cell, the balance point shifts to 64.8 cm
length of the potentiometer wire. Determine the internal resistance of the cell.

self inductance of a long air – core solenoid of length l , cross – sectional area A and
having number of turns N.
24. Draw a labelled ray diagram for the formation of image by a compound microscope .
Acompound microscope uses two lenses of power 10D and 1 D.
(i) State with reason, which lens is preferred of objective and eye-piece.
(ii) Calculate the magnifying power of the compound microscope , if the final image is
formed at the least distance of distinct vision.
25. Draw the circuit diagram to study the characteristics of npn transistor in common
emitter(CE)configuration.Sketch typical (i) input characteristics (ii) out put
characteristics for such a configuration.Explain how the current gain of a transistor is
calculated from output characteristics.

(a) Define modulation index.
(b) Give its physical significance .
(c) For an amplitude modulated wave , maximum amplitude is found to be 10 V while
the minimum amplitude is 2V . Determine the modulation index.
26. State three postulates of Bohr‘s theory of H – atom.
27. In a winter night, sonu was sitting with his grandmother, she told him “when I was of
your age, paisa coins were used like one paisa, two paisa etc., and those paisa coins
were having great value at that time.”
Sonu asked his grandmother, “ I don’t know about it, as I am not educated and I even
never tried to know about that”.
But sonu’s elder brother monu was standing behind and listening to the conversation
between them, he told sonu that those were made up of aluminium magnesium
alloy. Grandmother felt happy with her grandsons.
(a) Write about monu’sintellegency.
(b) A paisa coin weighs 0.75 g and is square shaped with diagonal 17 mm.
Suppose it is electrically neutral. If the coin is only made up of aluminium. Find the
magnitude of equal number of + ve and – ve charges.
28. (a) Define plane polarised lights. (b) State and prove Brewster law of polarisation. (c) If
the angle between the pass axis of polarizer and the analyser is 45 0 , write the ratio of
the intensities of original light and the transmitted light after passing through the
analyser.

Derive the expression for the refractive index of the material of the prism in terms of the angle
of the prism and angle of minimum deviation. Also prove that for a small angled prism δ=A(µ -1),
where the symbols have their usual meanings.
29. Define electric flux .What is it’s SI unit? What is Gauss theorem in electrostatics?
Prove that the electric field at a point due to a uniformly charged infinite plane sheet is
independent of the distance from it.

Two capacitors with capacitances C1 and C2 are charged to potentials V1and V2
respectively and than connected in parallel. Calculate the common potential across the
combination, the charge on each capacitor , the electrostatic energy stored in the system
and the charge in electrostatic energy from its initial value.
30. (a) What do you mean by current sensitivity of a moving coil galvanometer. On what
factor does it depend ?
(b)State two reasons why a galvanometer cannot be used as such to
measure current in a given circuit ?
(c) With the help of a circuit , show how a moving coil galvanometer can be converted into
an ammeter of an given range.

(a) Write any three characteristics, a ferromagnetic substance should possess if it is to be
used to make a permanent magnet . Give one example of such a material.
