Helping Hands

Passages II

Proposal

Introduction

Within the year of 2016 and beyond, the ever changing social and political climate has

allowed young scholars such as myself to broaden the personal scope of perspectives; to open up

to new ideas. Although this allows for more diversity in viewpoints, it also allows for people to

see the tragedies that have existed for a long time. It has never been a mystery that there are

people who suffer on a daily basis, due to poverty. As heartbreaking as it is, much of this

suffering is preventable. The activity passage which we have planned would help to ease this

suffering, if only a little. We plan on starting a fundraiser, to raise money that will go into

enhancing the standard of living for the homeless. The end goal of our activity would be to fulfill

the basic necessities of a few dozen people in the world. It would not be a permanent change, but

if a few people are able to live slightly happier lives, we believe that this activity is necessary.

GPS Domains

Take Action: For this activity passage, organizing and putting ideas into effect are both

necessary things. In my opinion, activity passages are the best examples of the global domain of

taking action. To be able to turn an idea into reality, taking action upon our plans as passages

students reflect the core of this global domain.

Recognize Perspectives: With this specific passage project, it is important to recognize

the differences between people of a decently positioned social status, and those who do not have

such a privilege to be able to independently financially support themselves. It is Noe and I’s best

interest to be able to recognize these differences, and respectfully fulfill these goals of the
activity passage as to not undermine the values of our school by offending those of whom are the

target group of our activity.

Product

The finished product of what I envisioned would be a changed perspective for myself, as

well as increased levels of happiness with the people that my planned project will impact. It is

not a large or life changing experience for the other party, but I believe that I will be able to grow

as a person, through this fundraising project. I believe that it’s the little things that matter, and

that even by helping just a little bit, that help goes a long way to impact others’ livelihoods.

Group Members & Roles

Noe: Provide the ride and/or do research on what shelter needs the most

Dat: Research for a shelter (of any kind) that needs the most help or volunteers.

Both: We will create a presentation with our reflection and each give our thought while at the

shelter and then point out said problems in the shelter community and inform the school on how

they can improve the situation many people face today.

Potential Obstacles

Some challenges we may face would be time, effective use of collaboration, or dedication

during the planning process. My group member also has limited time, seeing that he has time

invested with working after school. Time allocation is perhaps the largest potential challenge, but

with proper and efficient planning, all of these obstacles can become trivial.

Concerned on whether or not we will be able to organize
