Installation and Configuration Manual Hardware Installation

Hardware Installation
Installing the JAVA VM Card
On some models, the Java VM is already installed either on an SD card or in FLASH memory. Consult
your Ricoh representative to determine if your MFP requires Java be installed manually.

To install the Java platform:

1. Turn off the device using the main power switch. Wait for MFP to completely shut down.
2. Insert Java SD card in a free slot on machine.
3. Start the device from the main power switch. The default application screen (usually Copy) will
be displayed. Wait for the device to finish booting.
4. Select the “User Tools/Counter” button.
5. If the machine administrator has already been set on device, press the “Login/Logout” button on
the far-right of the user panel to enter administrator UN/PW.
6. Choose the “Extended Feature Settings” button
7. Choose the “Extended Feature Settings” button (again).
8. Verify that the JavaTM Platform is listed under the Startup Settings tab.
9. Reboot the device from the main power switch.

Note: The SD card containing the Java platform must remain in the machine.

Installing the Card Reader (Optional)

Pharos supports RFiDeas proximity card readers, Magtek card readers, Blackboard PS4101 card readers,
and many other card readers that present themselves as USB keyboard devices to the host.

Note that on so-called 12.x models, in order for the MFP to recognize card readers other than those
listed above, the card reader’s USB Vendor ID and Product ID must be configured in a USB setup menu
on the MFP. Consult the MFPs documentation for instructions.

To install the card reader:

1. Locate an available USB-A port. On most devices, you can find this port on the main CPU panel
near the SD-card slot. Often this port is covered by a break-out plastic tab or covered by a metal
plate. If so, you will need to remove the covering material to expose the port.
2. Plug the USB device into the USB-A port.
3. We recommend that you mount the card-reading device in a convenient location for users.
Route the cables so that they will not interfere with moving parts of the MFP, such as doors,
trays, or the ADF.

Name
The Network Terminal is displayed under this name in the List window. This name must be entered on
the Settings > Pharos Systems screen of the Configuration website.

Descriptive Name
The Descriptive Name can be used to give further information about the Network Terminal. It is
displayed only in Pharos Administrator

External Name
In cases where the Network Terminal is interfacing with an external system via a Pharos Gateway, the
external name contains the terminal's identifier in the external system.

Station Type
A Network Terminal can be one or a combination of:

 A Print Station, which lists all print jobs held in its associated Spool Queue and releases
them for printing once payment arrangements are made at the MFP by the user who is the
job owner.
 A Copy Station, which controls copying activity on the MFP.

To change the services a Network Terminal offers, click the “Editing” button at the end of this
field. This opens the Network Terminal Type dialog, where one or more services can be selected.
Check the boxes for the service(s) you want this Network Terminal to offer and click “OK.”

Note: The Add Value Station Type is not supported for Ricoh MFPs.

Note: The Ricoh MFP must be a copy station.

Note: If only “Copy Station” is selected, the printing screen will not appear at the MFP.

Terminal Type
This is a read-only property displaying the type of the selected Network Terminal. For Ricoh MFPs, this
property should display “Ricoh iMFP.”

Bank (Uniprint only)

Pharos Banks details the logon method and billing method used by the Network Terminal. Each device
handles only one billing method, so multiple devices must be provided if more than one billing method
is offered to users. By default, all Network Terminals are associated with the Default Bank.

Related Printers
This property displays any printers connected to the Network Terminal. In the case of a Ricoh MFP, the
only printer listed should be the MFD entry for the device itself.

Print Server
Each printer is controlled by a Pharos Print Server, which controls the printing system and user
authentication.

Installation and Configuration Manual Upgrading From a Previous Version

Upgrading From a Previous Version

The software cannot be installed over the previous version using the supplied installation utility if the
version being overwritten is 1.4.2 or earlier. In this case, the previous version must be uninstalled
before installing a new version. Prior to uninstalling the software from the MFP, browse to
http://ip.address.of.device:8080/Pharos/Config and collect the configuration information. This will be
used to reconfigure the MFP after the upgrade. Note this procedure must be done for each MFP that
will be upgraded.

If Upgrading From a Version Before 1.1.0

If upgrading from a version previous to 1.1.0, you will also need to reconnect the terminal by supplying
the server address and terminal name from the website Configuration page. The terminal configuration
settings will not persist through the upgrade. We recommend that you make a list of terminal settings
before you begin the upgrade process.

If Using Uniprint 7.2 or Blueprint 3.5

You will need to manually update the database in Pharos Administrator. See Appendix A for instructions
on how to update the database on Uniprint 7.2 or Appendix B for Blueprint 3.5.

Note: Later versions of the server software (Uniprint 8.0+ and Blueprint 4.1+) will automatically update
the schema when the terminal first connects to the server and do not require any intervention from the
administrator. Any previous settings will be retained in the upgrade process.

31
Installation and Configuration Manual Appendix A: Configuring the Pharos Uniprint System

Appendix A: Configuring the Pharos Uniprint

System
A working Pharos Uniprint system must be present before setting up integration with the Ricoh MFP.
Pharos Solution Suite 7.2 or later is required. The following system components must be set up:

 At least one print server, with spool queues set up.

 The Pharos EDI Server, set to use the appropriate print server. If you want to use SSL to
encrypt communications to and from the EDI, it should also be set up.
 The Pharos Bank(s) used for authentication and charging.
 The Job Cost Method used to calculate the cost of copy and print jobs.
 A Charging Model, if Third-Party Charging is being used.

See the “Pharos Help” for information on setting up the Pharos system.

Pharos contains records for the printers and copiers that it manages, and for the terminals that control
them. Since the Ricoh MFP is both an output device and a terminal, records for it must be created in
two places. Before any configuration can take place, however, the Pharos Database must be updated.

Updating the Pharos Database

For Versions Earlier than 8.0

Uniprint versions earlier than 8.0 require the ini_schemas_ricohIMFP.sql script to be run against the
Pharos Database to add the “Ricoh iMFP” Network Terminal type and its associated configurable
properties. The script is located in the Database directory of the Pharos Ricoh iMFP installation package.
Copy this script to the Database server.

If you are using SQL Server, run the script with SQL Query Analyzer; if your site uses MSDE, run it by
entering the following from a command prompt, where <password> is your SQL administrator
password:

osql -U sa -P <password> –d pharos –i ini_schemas_ricohIMFP.sql

For Uniprint 8.0

Note: If you already have the Ricoh iMFP as an available terminal type in the Pharos System, the
terminal will automatically update it to the latest version when it connects to your system for the first time.
In most circumstances, you do not need to manually add the new schema to the system.

If you need to add the schema file manually:

1. Copy the ini_schemas_ricohIMFP.xml file to your local disk. This XML file is located in the
\Database\Uniprint 8.0 directory of the Pharos iMFP distribution package.
2. Select the “Network Terminals” context in the Administrator.

32
Installation and Configuration Manual Appendix A: Configuring the Pharos Uniprint System

Enterprise System

Appendix B: Configuring the Pharos Blueprint®

Enterprise System
A working Blueprint system must be present before setting up integration with the Ricoh MFP. Pharos
Blueprint Enterprise 3.5 or later is required.

The following system components must be set up:

 The Blueprint Analyst must be installed.
 All Blueprint Collectors must be installed and registered with the Analyst.
 All servers must be configured to use SSL.
 You must be licensed to use the Secure Release Here™ system in Blueprint.

See Blueprint Help for information on setting up the Blueprint system. Blueprint contains records for the
devices that it manages, and for the terminals that control them. Since the Ricoh MFP is both an output
device and a terminal, records for it must be created in two places.

Adding the Ricoh iMFP Terminal Type

Blueprint 3.5 does not have the Ricoh terminal type built into the system.

To Add the Ricoh iMFP Terminal Type to the Database:

1. Copy the two files supplied with the Ricoh iMFP firmware release - Ricoh.TerminalTypeInfo.xml
and Ricoh iMFP.terminal.config into the Blueprint\bin directory of the Analyst server. The files
are located in the Database directory of the Pharos Ricoh iMFP installation package.
2. Run the following command line from the Blueprint\bin directory of Pharos Systems. This
installs the Ricoh terminal type with its configurable properties.
%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe /TerminalTypeInfo=
"Ricoh.TerminalTypeInfo.xml" PharosSystems.OutputManagement.TerminalPlugins.Ini.dll
Registering the Device
Set up the MFP and create a print queue for it on the Blueprint Collector that will control it. Once the
MFP is set up, print a test job to it. Blueprint will track the print job, and automatically add a record for
the MFP to the Blueprint Database. You can view the MFP’s record on the Devices screen in the Device
Management section of Blueprint Administrator.

Creating a Terminal Record

A record for each terminal must exist in the Blueprint system, so that they can be used to release jobs to

organization uses self-signed certificates other than the provided Pharos CA certificate), you must :

1. Add your certificate to a list of trusted certificates.

2. Install the certificate on the MFP.
Adding the Certificate to the Trusted Keychain:

The following command is used to add a public CA certificate (mycert.cer) to the trusted certificates list.
It is recommended that you use the supplied “jdk-cacerts” file for this purpose, which is included with
the solution:

keytool -import -alias alias -file mycert.cer -trustcacerts -keystore jdk-cacerts

The alias can be any string, but it is recommended that it be related to the certificate you are importing.

Example:

keytool -import –alias pharos -file mycert.cer -trustcacerts -

keystore jdk-cacerts

You will be prompted for a password. Enter “changit.” You can then verify that the certificate is added
to the trust chain by typing this command:

keytool -list -v –keystore mycacertsfile

Once you have added all certificates to the trusted list, save the cacerts file in case you need to reinstall
at a later date.

Installing the Trusted Certificates on the MFP:

You may install the certificates during installation of the Pharos software, or afterward. To install the
trusted certificates file to the device after the Pharos iMFP for Ricoh solution has been installed:
