PROJECT R&D+I

TITLE
VALORMAR - VALUATION OF MARINE RESOURCES, THROUGH INVESTIGATION,
DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION OF NEW PRODUCTS AND THE IMPROVEMENT OF
PRODUCTIVE PROCESSES THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES

HIGHLIGHTS
Development of innovative technological solutions for the valorization of marine resources,
through research, development and demonstration of new products and improvement of
productive processes

ABSTRACT
The ValorMar Project is an initiative created by Portuguese companies and entities that intend to
study new marine applications for the food, biomedical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

The project has a time horizon of three years and will generate new marine applications for the
food, biomedical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The launch of new healthy products
based on resources such as algae and similar, new aquaculture development and optimization
technologies and services or integrated traceability of the fish chain, with the capacity to leverage
the sea economy and drive opportunities, particularly through the export of goods and services.

To this end, the program is based on four main axes: 1. New sea products, technologies and
processes for industry and the market. Among the new products can be R & D of innovative
preserves and snacks based on different marine resources, proposing new strategies to extend the
shelf life of fish preparations; 2. Development and optimization of new products, technologies and
processes for aquaculture production in Portugal and Europe, such as anticipation of the weather;
3. Isolation of bioactive compounds from marine sources, for use in formulations for functional
foods or in the biomedical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries; 4. Research and development
of the technological traceability platform, to provide information to companies and the end
consumer in an integrated way, considering the entire value chain.
