Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Opening Activity
1. Daily Routine
Good afternoon, class.
: Good afternoon, sir.
Before you take your seats, arrange
your chairs properly and pick up
litters under them.
: (Students do as told.)
Welcome to the Hogwarts School of
Mathematics Wizardry. I am your
head-master for today and you call
yourselves Mathematics Wizard.

2. Review
To start our day right, let us have an
activity, we are going to divide the
house into four. Your groups will be
depending on your wand. Is that
clear, wizards?
: Yes, headmaster.
Now the house with the red wands
are the Gryffindor, you will stay on
the front seats at my right side, the
house holding green wands are the
Slytherin and will occupy the seats
at the back of the Gryffindors, the
house with blue wands are the
Ravenclaw, you will stay on the
front seats at my left side, lastly, the
house with the yellow wand are the
Hufflepuff, you will occupy the seats
at the back of the Ravenclaws. Are
the instructions clear, wizards?
: Yes, headmaster.
You may now proceed to your
respective houses.
: ( Students will proceed to their groups.)
The annual House Cup is will be held
in a few weeks. But the committee
decided to postpone it because of
the one we don’t speak his name.in
order to stop him, we should
destroy everything that contains his
soul, the Holcrux. Therefore our
mission is “Polygonal Holcrux
Destruction.” Here are the
mechanics of our activity. Kindly
read it, _________?
: 1. The professors will flash the silhouette of
the Holcrux and some clues on its
identification.

2. The houses will race to identify what the

Holcrux is and what kind of polygon it is.

3. The house that will guess the Holcrux will

recite the magic spell “specto patronum” in
order to destroy the Holcrux. The house will
also get a point that is essential that will be
used in the upcoming House Cup.
Are the mechanics clear, wizards?
: Yes, headmaster.
I think you are ready, let’s start our
“Polygonal Holcrux Destruction.”

1. It may be a page or a leaf, it

may blank or lined, written with
words or images.
: a paper, quadrilateral
2. A thing that can be owned by
many people. A refuge and a
shelter.
: a house, pentagon
3. Its name is a shape but not its
shape, it lights in the dark, the
children of the moon.
: a star, decagon
With the outcome of our
mission, I can say that you have
really understood our topic last
meeting. As of now, the ______
is on the lead for the House
Cup. For that, let’s give them a
round of applause.

: ( Students will clap for ________.)

3. Motivation
Now, do you want to hear the
story of the wizard name
Valdemort who died in some
time? What do you think is the
reason why he died?
: He killed himself, headmaster.
Aha, you have wild guesses, : He was hit by a killing curse.
wizards. But actually no one
knows what the reason is or
how he died. But it was believed
that Voldemort’s soul is
confined in the “Chamber of
Secrets” that we have here at
front which will lead us to our
topic for today.
In order for us to open this
“chamber of secrets”, we need
to recite the magic spell “Circa
Leviosa.” Everybody let’s recite
the spell.
: Circa Leviosa
(The chamber of secrets will
open.)

B. Presentation of the Lesson

What is our topic for today,
wizards?
: Circle and its Parts!
That’s right. We will distribute a
paper called KWL paper. In this
paper, you will write what you
know about circles and what
you want to know about circles.
And after our discussion, you
will write what you have
learned about circles and its
parts.

What comes to your mind when

you hear or see circles, ______?
: It is round and infinite, headmaster.
What additional insights do you
have about circles, ________?
: It is formed by a curved line surrounding a
point, headmaster.
C. Lesson Proper
A circle is a set of all points in a plane
equidistant from a given fixed point
called the center.

How do we name a circle, _______?

: We name a circle using its center,
headmaster.
That’s right. Suppose we have this circle
with center A.

What is the name then of the circle,

______?
: Circle A, headmaster
Very good. What if we draw a segment
joining the center and a point on the
circle? What do we call this segment,
____?
: Radius, headmaster.
Precisely! Kindly draw a radius on the
circle, ________?
:

Is she correct, wizards?

: Yes, headmaster.
Absolutely. Its symbol is r and its plural
form is radii.
Now if we draw a segment joining two
pairs on the circle wherein the
endpoints lay on the circle, what do we
call this segment, _______?
: It is called chord, headmaster.
Indeed, kindly draw a chord on the
circle, ________.
:

Good job. Next, supposing that we draw

another segment that passes through
the center of the circle, what do we call
this segment or chord, _______?
: Diameter, headmaster.
That’s correct. Would you mind to draw
a diameter on the circle, _______?
: Not at all, headmaster.
:

What have you noticed with the length

of the radius and diameter, _______?

: The length of the diameter is twice the

length of the radius, headmaster.
Certainly. Hence, in symbols, we have
d=2r, where d=diameter and r=radius. Is
that clear, wizards?
: Yes, headmaster.
Now we proceed to the next. Given a
line that touches the circle at one point,
what do we call this line, ________?
: It is called tangent, headmaster.

Exactly. Would you like to draw a

tangent on the circle, _______?
: Yes, headmaster.
:

Is her illustration right, wizards?

: Yes, headmaster.
Indeed. The point where it touches the
circle is called the point of Tangency.

Now, let’s have a line that intersects the

circle at two points. What do we call this
line, ______?
: I think it is secant, headmaster.
Precisely. Please come at front and
illustrate the secant in the circle,
______?
:

Is her sketch correct, wizards? : Yes, headmaster.

D. Application

Ok wizards, we will have an activity.

What we have here is called semantic
web. All you have to do is to determine
if the name you draw from this box is a
part of a circle. If yes, draw a line from
the circle attach the word to the end of
the line and define the word, if not, you
would do the same in the other circle
except for defining it. Are you ready,
wizards? : Yes, headmaster.

Ok, let us start.

: (The wizards will draw a name and classify
it.)
E. Valuing

Now, I have here a ring which is circle in

shape, of course. What do you think a
wedding ring symbolizes ________?

That’s right. What is the other term for

marriage, _____?
: It symbolizes marriage and infinite love,
How about others? _____ will you give headmaster.
your insights?

That’s nice. You have many ideas about : Wedding, headmaster.

wedding ring. Now, let’s take up the
situation. Suppose you had a boyfriend : A wedding ring symbolizes eternity and
or a girlfriend right now and he or she forever, headmaster.
asked you to live together first before
marriage, what would be your reaction,
_______?
That’s a good decision to make. How
about you, _______?
: I would refuse because I still believe with the
real essence of marriage, headmaster.

That’s a very good of you. At your age,

you still have many dreams to : I would also refuse, headmaster. I still
accomplish. You make a wise decision; believed that as a Christian, we must not live
you enjoy your life before getting together with the ones we love without the
involved in such relationship. We blessings of our parents.
Christians must not elope without the
blessings of our parents. Is it clear,
wizards?

F. Generalization

Now let us recall the things we have

discussed for today.

What is a circle, ______?

: a circle is a set of all points in a plane
equidistant from a given fixed point called the
center, headmaster.
Exactly. How about the parts of circle.
Give one, _______?
: Center, headmaster.
Another, ______?
: Radius, headmaster.
One more part of a circle, _____?
: Chord, headmaster.
What more can you add, _______?
: Diameter, headmaster.
Any more, _________?
: Tangent, headmaster.
Lastly, _________?
: Secant, headmaster.

To memorize it easier just remember

this sentence, “Can Ron Cast Deathspell
To Snape.”

Did you get it, wizards?

: Yes, headmaster.
Now that everything is done, get back
your KWL paper and fill up the last
column.
: (The students will do as told.)
G. Evaluation
And for our final test, bring out ¼ sheet
of paper and answer the following.

Use the given circle to name the

following:
1. Radius : segment HP, HJ
2. Secant : line OP, UP, EP
3. Diameter : segment JP
4. Point of Tangency : point J
5. Tangent : line OJ
6. Chord : segment JP, LP, EP, UP
7. Center : point M

Are you done, wizards? : Yes, headmaster.

Pass your paper into the aisle and pass it

forward. : ( Students do as told.)

IV. Assignment
For your homework, have an
advance reading about our next
topic which is circumference and
area of circles.

That’s all for today. Goodbye,

wizards.
: Goodbye and thank you, headmaster.
