WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS FOR 2014!

Dear Year 9 Students,

It is a good idea to start thinking about possible work experience placements for your
Work Experience Week from 28th July to August 1st 2014. Ask your parents, relatives,
neighbours, family friends, friend’s parents etc if they have any ideas or opportunities
for possible work experience placements.

Popular work experience placements are as follows:

Please look on SCEGGSnet - open General Area and go to CAREERS. Open the
Careers page and look in Year 10 – there is an example of a simple letter and resume
for you to use when writing to a prospective work experience employer. However,
you may want to be far more creative than this letter – it's only a start. Think of
sending in some of your work - writing, photographs etc. Design something that
showcases you so you can stand out from the crowd.

If you are considering finding a placement in the above suggestions, it is very

important to start looking as soon as possible! Remember that you are competing with
students from many schools across Sydney for a possible placement. Some
organisations have structured work experience programs that are conducted during
term time that you must apply for. If you are interested in something like this, please
organize yourself and apply ASAP! These programs can be very popular and have

PLEASE READ ON FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!

These are just some examples of what is on offer. Please do some research by using
the internet and asking anyone that you know for some help. Of course, you can
always come to the Careers Office! Some companies may like a copy of the SCEGGS
Darlinghurst Insurance Policy before they agree to give you work experience. Please
advise the company that the school is insured for Public Liability by AON Insurance
Services. They can contact SCEGGS Business Services if they wish to obtain a copy
of the Insurance Certificate.

There are 2 Forms that need to be filled out by you, your parents and the employer.
These will be given to you early next year and have to be completed by the end of
May 2014. If you require them earlier to secure a workplace with a popular
institution, please see me and I will give you a copy of them. Otherwise, it will be ok
to do the paperwork during first term next year.
