CONFIGURATION AND OPERATION

Configuration of the instrument is accomplished via one of
two methods. For most applications including single loop
PID, single station cascade and feedforward, canned
strategies and faceplates are easily implemented through
the instruments front face.

For more complex applications, beyond those offered as

canned faceplates, configuration is accomplished through
the icon-based Application Builder Software which is used
to create, edit, save, download and document the MOD
30ML data base in a graphic environment (see
specification 23-10-06). Downloading instrument
configurations can be done via ICN, or via Modbus over
RS-232 or a 4-wire RS-485 network.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Pipeline Booster Station

Pipeline booster control requirements include the ability for the station to operate within safety limits. In this
example MOD 30ML is used to cycle the booster pumps, provide suction and discharge pressure control with
feedback, low signal selector and if needed, ramp function generator for remote start-up. The strategy is designed
to operate within the safety limits.

3-Element Drum Level Control

In this example MOD 30ML provides the steam flow linearization, feedwater flow computation (sum), drum level
control, feedwater flow cascade control and auto/manual mode transfer. Both the control loops can have dedicated
loop displays or they may be combined for a single station cascade look.

ORDERING INFORMATION
1. Select base instrument including instrument power supply and termination style required (Part 1).
2. If required, select I/O Modules (Part 2). Eleven total slots per base instrument. Number of modules per base instrument depends on:
- number of available channels after communications module(s) installed
- slot requirements of each module, e.g. 3-wire RTD requires 2 slots
(caution: 2012AZ active analog input and 2003AZ current output modules require the adjacent slot to be unused)
3. If a second serial communications port is required, select the appropriate Communications Module (Part 3). One additional serial
communications network beyond the channel on the base instrument (ICN, Modbus) may be installed on one base instrument.
4. If required, select Application Builder software for MOD 30ML database configuration (Part 5). Includes MOD 30ML User’s Guide.
