LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE 2017 GRAND PRIX WINNER OF THE 5TH
VIETNAM INTERNATIONAL CHOIR COMPETITION, THE LA SALLE CHORALE!

(DLSC enters)

To give his opening remarks, please welcome our beloved Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Segundino
Chua.

(Ask Fr. Chua to segue to the first song, Cantate Domino, as Invocation/Prayer)

Song 1 : CANTATE DOMINO

Song 2 : DAEMON IRREPIT CALLIDUS

SPIEL 1

This very evening in December, the De La Salle Chorale opens this musical celebration
with contemporary classical works by two of the world’s renowned European composers
entitled “CANTATE DOMINO” by Josu Elberdin of Spain and “DAEMON IRREPIT
CALLIDUS” by Gyorgy Orban of Hungary. Through these masterpieces, DLSC urgently
posits that choral singing and classical music concert-going as a whole is ought to be
elevated as a ritualistic experience and is an essential piece of civic life - whether the goal
is to worship with more beauty, govern with more authority, or live more pristinely, music
is for all people in all times and is a collective experience intended for everyone.

(Pause shortly)

The music and musical life of the Filipinos since the dawning of the late 19th century
became a period when Filipino musicians from different social and economic
environments reached a common consciousness of a music as an art form and as a distinct
form of human expression. Filipino musicians began to express individual as well as
collective sentiments, thus, reaching significant levels of competence and proficiency
through the acquisition of special musical skills in musical composition. In our next set
of songs, DLSC honors our very own local Filipino composers and arrangers who, through
their ingenuity and skillful excellence through a wide spectrum of their obra-maestra,
continue to promote the cause of serious music and nationalism in Philippine music as a
conscious and concerted effort, and to incorporate native musical elements in the
different forms of Western classical music.

Song 3 : ROSAS PANDAN

Song 4 : WARAY-WARAY

Song 5 : GO THE DISTANCE

SPIEL 3

AN EVENING IN DECEMBER is not only about music; it is so much more. Through this
musical experience and opportunity that we share with you and want you all to be an
essential part of, DLSC hopes to shed light on many of the troubling social issues of the
world - from injustice to lack of equality. The gift of song is - by definition - both
beautiful and non-discriminatory. Song has no race or gender, no hidden agenda. Song
transcends all barriers and, it brings people together in the most elemental but powerful
ways. In the words of the Latin American Vice President of the International Federation
for Choral Music, Albert Grau: (and I quote)
“It’s our time to show, with more power and strength, that music - the divine art, is
more than the mere search of formal perfection and interpretative beauty. Music
should serve to extol the values of solidarity, peace and understanding.”

Song 6 : TAYONG LAHAT MAGKAKAPATID

Song 7 : BETTER WORLD
