There will be six chapter tests. In lieu of one of the six chapter tests a corresponding
chapter project/application can be submitted. For instance you can replace the Chapter 5 test
with a Chapter 5 project/application but you could not replace the Chapter 5 test with any
other chapter project/application. Your best 5 scores will count towards your course grade.
Each of those 5 test scores will be worth 14% of the final grade. There will also be a
comprehensive final exam that will be worth 30% of the final grade.
Note:
If you take the option to replace one of your chapter test grades with the corresponding
chapter application, you must submit that chapter application by Thursday, the 6th of March,
2014. Acceptable means of delivering that chapter application is in class or leave it with a
field representative at the UMUC office during their normal business hours (note that they
close at 5 pm on weekdays, and they are closed on weekends and holidays). If no chapter
application is turned in by the 6th of March, then your best 5 chapter test scores (along with
your score on the final exam) will be used in the computation of your grade for this course as
described in the paragraph above.
Chapter 5 Application Name:_________________________
Problem #1 is worth 5 points and all others are worth 10 points each.
2. List the six earnings per share (EPS) in order from the
smallest number to the largest number.
4. Find the average EPS for the 2012 quarters depicted in the
graph.
3
The EPS for 12 2014 will be the quotient of of the EPS for 12 2011
4
4
and 1 .
5
The EPS for 12 2011 is 8.

The quotient of of the EPS for 12 2011 and 1 is,

6. Simplify: 18 - 16(7 - 12) 2 + 8 4(2) + 0 .

7. Let’s say MSO controls 20 of the media market. Express that
fraction in decimal form and then state what percent of the
media market they control.
3

The fall in the stock value = $5 - $1
4 8
21 11
= $ -$
4 8
= $5.25 - $1.375
= $3.875
9. Let's say that the EPS for MSO can be modeled by the equation
(formula) e = 0.15 6q , where e is the EPS in dollars and q
is the number of quarters after 12/2013. For example 3/2014
is one quarter after 12/2013, 6/2014 is two quarters after
12/2013,… What is the predicted EPS for the quarter 12/2037?
e = 0.15 6q
3 2014 is one quarter after 12 2013, 6 2014 is two quarters after 12 2013,
&L , then 12 2037 is 96 quarters after 12 2013.
e12 2037 = 0.15 6 ( 96 ) = 3.60
10. Using the right side of the equation given in the problem
above, simplify the expression for the quarter 6/2021.
e = 0.15 6q
3 2014 is one quarter after 12 2013, 6 2014 is two quarters after 12 2013,
&L , then 6 2021 is 30 quarters after 12 2013.
e6 2021 = 0.15 6 ( 30 ) = 2.0125
4 ( 5d - 3) - 2 ( d - 7 ) = 20d - 12 - 2d + 14
= 18d + 2
4. The owner of the pizzeria is enrolled in a math course and
does his/her homework during lulls. He/she needs assistance
with the following problem: 7(3x + 5) – x = 5x + 5
7(3x + 5) - x = 5x + 5
21x + 35 - x = 5x + 5
21x - x - 5x = 5 - 35
15x = -30
30
x=- = 2
15
-3 6
5. Another problem that the owner needs help is: = Solve this
8 x
equation.
-3 6 6 8
=  -3 x = 6 8  - x = = 16  x = -16
8 x 3
6. And one other problem that the owner requires assistance is
to solve: ( x + 11)( x - 5) = 0 . Solve this equation.
( x + 11) ( x - 5 ) = 0
 x + 11 = 0 or x - 5 = 0
 x = -11 or x = 5
7. The average revenue generated from the sale of each pizza is
$5. It costs the pizzeria an average of $1.50 to make each
pizza. The pizzeria also has fixed costs (utilities, wages,
etc) of $300 each month. How many pizzas made and sold will
generate profits for the pizzeria?
Let x be the number of days the two pizzerias will have the same amount
of pizza sales. x can be obtained by solving the following equation:
50 + 8 x = 200 - 2 x
8 x + 2 x = 200 - 50
10 x = 150
x = 15
Therefore, after 15 days the two pizzerias will have the same
amount of pizza sales.
Let x be the number of months will the scooter be worth only the price of a
5 topping pizza, which is $10. x can be obtained by solving the
following equation:
1, 000 - 20 x = 10
-20 x = 10 - 1, 000
-20 x = -900
x = 45
-2 x 2 + x + 6 = 0
-2 x 2 + 4 x - 3 x + 6 = 0
-2 x ( x - 2 ) - 3 ( x - 2 ) = 0
( x - 2 ) ( -2 x - 3) = 0
x - 2 = 0 or - 2 x - 3 = 0
3
x = 2 or x = -

on the graph below is 2.3,
a) find the linear equation of this line.
3. Based on the SLR equation, estimate the number of manatee deaths from
boats if there are 780,000 (which is 78 tens of thousands) registered
boats. Note: if you were unable to answer #2a, then use the graph to
make your estimate.

11. If we were to attempt to model the data for the years 1993 to 1999,
a) which function(s) might fit the data the best:
linear, exponential, logarithmic, or/and quadratic?
Explain your answer(s).
Since the points between 1993 and 1999 are appearing as a straight
line, linear function might fit the data the best.

7. The Doe seniors are entrepreneurs. As such they must pay taxes on
their earnings as follows: for the first $90,000 or under of total
earnings they must pay 10% tax, and for any portion of total
earnings exceeding $90,000 they are taxed for that portion of their
earnings at 15%. How much tax must they pay for earning $153,208
during the tax year?

11) You need a new computer. The computer that you plan to buy can be
ordered to include or not include the following when it is shipped
to you: a mouse, a microphone, a memory stick, a wifi antenna, a
dust protector. How many different orders can be made for this

13) Let's say UMUC at Aviano plans to have a student council comprised
of three officers: president, secretary, and treasurer. If these
offices can only be held by those whose primary academic program

combined MATH 103 classmates if each office is to be held by a
different person?

degree program. Assuming you meet the prerequisites for all of
those classes that you are contemplating and you have the time to
take the classes, then how many schedules can you create for
yourself that are composed of one of those lunchtime classes and
one of those evening classes, and one of those weekend seminars?

d) For our Spring Session 1 classes of 2014, the Chapter 5 Test had a
mean of about 92 points with a standard deviation of 10.5 points.
For the Chapter 6 Test we had a mean of about 90 and standard
deviation of about 11, and for the Chapter 7 Test we had a mean of
about 83.6 with a standard deviation of about 16.8. On which of
these chapter tests did you do the best with respect to your
classmates who took those tests? Support your answer with
numerical calculations.
For this problem we need scores of all the students in the class
who took tests on Chapters 5, 6, and 7. So not possible to solve.
