Development Dilemmas
A Development Intervention Perspective Assignment

Development is a qualitative, innovative, rapid, multi-dimensional, discontinuous, irreversible, non-elastic

change and hence, a non-linear process; it is distinct from growth which is elastic, reversible, gradual,
incremental and therefore a linear process. Now a days everyone talk about development, my thinking
on development is how to see. It is controversial because of what is our basis to measure the development
have not clear. What is the limit of development? I think its answer be some confusion create, because
some of parts of country are too isolation based and highly marginalized family. Other side of country run
over the globalization. A hues gap between two important points. What we need development or growth?
This second question answer depends upon first question solutions. Reading the article made me think
about other dilemmas like Growth v/s Development, Development v/s Development Terrorism
etc. If we talk about the dilemma of growth and development, this dilemma is ages old. Many
argue that growth is quantitative change whereas development is qualitative. But still doesn’t
resolve the confusion. My understanding on difference between two things day by day we are
develop economic and social way but we left behind many more important aspects and nature.
Like: our culture, tradition and resources. In our course collective and commons talks about natural
resources that groups of people manage for individual and collective benefit.

An article titled ‘India @ 70: The Anxiety of Asymmetry’ by Vijay Mahajan has talked about three
asymmetries: The Aspiration v/s Attainment Asymmetry at the level of self-concept of
individuals, The Rights v/s Responsibility Asymmetry at the level of how individual relate to each
other, The Technology v/s Mythology Asymmetry at the level of how individuals relate to the
environment and other aspects of existence beyond human control. The writer highlights the fact
that there is a gap in all the three asymmetries stated above. For e.g. people often fight for their
rights but hardly talks about their responsibilities. My understanding on this gap because of
norms are equally not distributed among. We need a social reforms among us not individually.

We need an endogenous development at bottom up level through this we can come at one
platform if we only focus on endogenous development. Endogenous development pursues the
satisfaction of local needs and demands through active participation of the local community in
development process. Our demand is indigenous market not global market. We self-develop a
localized market not a horn screen market.

Some country develop his face value on the self-develop market like: Japan, Indonesia, and China.
Past 50 years before all these country comes under highly pure shape. But now a time its own
charm picture in front of unipolar country America. All of conversion depends upon only and only
self-confident and its production capacity. Our country in dilemma is which one has more
promote FDI or Make in India.
